Former chairman of the Neo-Nazi National Front group and current member of the fascist political party the BNP, Andrew Brons, has been elected as a member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber.
Brons won the seat with 120,139 votes (10%).
In 1982, Brons led a National Front march through Northfield on which marchers chanted: “We’ve got to get rid of the blacks”.
Brons is documented as saying to PC John Raj: “Inferior beings like yourself probably do not understand the principle of free speech”.
Brons started his political career in the National Socialist Movement, a group that that was deliberately founded on Hitler’s birthday.
It is BNP policy that members of ethnic minorities are banned from meetings and not are not allowed to join the political party — but are happy to accept their votes.
Leader Nick Griffen won a second seat in the North West of England.
A year before becoming chairman of the BNP he was convicted for inciting race hate in 1998.
In 2001 he is quoted as saying: “So, what are we now doing with the British National Party? Well we tried to simplify its message in some ways and to make it a saleable message. So it’s not white supremacy or racial civil war or anything like that, which is what we know in fact is going on, and we’re not supremacists, we’re white survivalists, even that frightens people. Four apple pie words, freedom, security, identity and democracy.”
And in 1998 he once stated: “I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that 6 million Jews were gassed and cremated and turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also also once held that the Earth was flat… I have reached the conclusion that the “extermination” tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter witch-hysteria.”
Health Secretary Andy Burnham, a North West MP, said the result was a “sad moment for British politics”. He said: “It is deeply uncomfortable to see the BNP polling in the numbers they have. Whatever the country’s problems the BNP are never the answer.”
Today marks great shame and embarrassment for Britain as the most disgraceful political party in UK history gains entry to the European Parliament.
