Από Dave Lindorff | Αμερικανοί πήραμε μια γραφική απεικόνιση της μεταβίβασης οποιωνδήποτε ανεξάρτητων αμερικανικών εταιρικών μέσων ειδήσεων αυτές οι προηγούμενες λίγες ημέρες ως κάλυψη στη TV και στην τυπωμένη ύλη διαποτιστήκαμε με τις εκθέσεις για απιστία John Edwards» και, εξίσου σημαντικός, εισβολή της Ρωσίας της Γεωργίας.
Στην πρώτη περίπτωση, είχαμε απολύτως τον άσκοπο εάν λάγνος αερισμός» οικτρή εξωγαμιαιή υπόθεση Edwards. Άσκοπος επειδή Edwards είναι αυτή τη στιγμή έχω-όντη πολιτικός. Εάν υπεάρξε οποιοδήποτε σημείο στην κάλυψη πρέπει να είναι, όπως ο Alex Cockburn επισήμανε στο περιοδικό του Counterpunch, η άθλια αποτυχία εκείνων των ίδιων δημοσιογράφων και οργανώσεων «ειδήσεων» για να καλύψει την πλάτη ιστορίας πέρισυ το φθινόπωρο, όταν πειράξει δύναμη. Η πλάτη έπειτα, όταν το μόνο έγγραφο που καλύπτει την ιστορία ήταν ο εθνικός ερωτών, Edwards ήταν ακόμα βιώσιμος υποψήφιος για την προεδρία, ή πιθανός υποψήφιος για τον αντιπρόεδρο πάλι. Δεν είναι ότι η προσωπική φύλο-ζωή του έχει οποιαδήποτε αξία ειδήσεων σε και το. Το σημείο είναι ότι κέρδισε το διορισμό, ή επιλεγμένος δεδομένου ότι ένας προεδρικός τρέχοντας σύντροφος κακίας, η αναπόφευκτη έκθεσή του αργότερα κατά τη διάρκεια της γενικής εκλογής θα είχε καταστρέψει οποιεσδήποτε δημοκρατικές προεδρικές πιθανότητες. Και τα εταιρικά μέσα ήξεραν πίσω έπειτα όλων για αυτήν την ιστορία. Ακριβώς δεν τον ακολουθούσαν (και τρέχον blitz των ιστοριών αποδεικνύει ότι δεν συγκρατούσαν από την αρχή!).
Διαβάσαμε ότι ο Πρόεδρος Bush καταδίκασε τη ρωσική εισβολή ενός άλλου έθνους και απαίτησε μια άμεση εκεχειρία. Ακόμα δεν υπεάρξε μια λέξη της κατάπληξης ή της πρόκλησης από τους δημοσιογράφους ή τους σχολιαστές ή τους εκδοτικούς συγγραφείς σε αυτήν την stunningly κυνική δήλωση που προέρχεται από έναν ηγέτη που ο ίδιος είναι αρμόδιος για την κατά τρόπο οφθαλμοφανή παράνομη και πιό καταστρεπτική εισβολή ενός άλλου έθνους. Και θυμηθείτε, ενώ η Γεωργία είναι στα σύνορα της Ρωσίας, και ήταν τουλάχιστον ενδεχομένως ένοχη της καταπίεσης και να επιτεθεί και ίσως ακόμη και φονικά μέλη της ρωσικής μειονότητας σε δύο από τις επαρχίες της (η Γεωργία βομβάρδισε τη μεγαλύτερη πόλη στη σχησματική επαρχία Ossetia, που σκοτώνει ίσως 1000 πολίτες, ενώπιον της Ρωσίας που εισβλήθηκε), το Ιράκ είναι μισός κόσμος μακρυά από την Αμερική και απασχολούσε την επιχείρησή του, μην απειλώντας Αμερικανούς με κάθε τρόπο. Η Ρωσία, ως εδώ, έχει σκοτωμένος μερικές χιλιάες Γεωργιανούς. America has, by most accounts killed hundreds of thousands and perhaps as many as 1.2 million Iraqis, very few of them combatants.
We watch and read voluminous reports on this relatively small Russian war against its neighbor and former domestic province (Georgia was one of the SSRs in the old USSR), and meanwhile there is almost nothing being reported about the continuing five-year-old war launched by Bush and Cheney against Iraq. And certainly, over the course of five years we have gotten no visual depiction of that war even approaching the scenes that were on display from the front in Georgia.
Apparently, in the view of our corporate news editors and managers, it is important for Americans to fully witness the bloody horrors of war when that war is being fought by Russia, but we are to be carefully protected from seeing such things when they are being perpetrated by our own centurions. We aren’t even allowed to see the grievous injuries and death being suffered by our own troops.
And, of course, don’t feel to good about the quality of the coverage of the Russian/Georgia conflict either. This too is biased. Indeed one reason we are shown all the carnage is that the US government has been backing Georgia, and there is evidence that the US even encouraged the Georgian attacks on ethnic Russians which provoked the invasion. The US also has obligingly airlifted Georgian troops back from Iraq to Georgia.
This is not news. This is propaganda, pure and simple.
American corporate news media broadcasts and articles should include a disclaimer: “This report was approved by the media managers of the Bush/Cheney administration.”
