Scully does reach a certain audience... granted, it is those inclined to follow Biblical mandates and "dominion" of animals rather than "rights" or "liberation" - However, I think anyway you can educate anyone about the plight animals are in, is good. People get their messages from many avenues. There's no "one size fits all" when it comes to vocalizing animal concerns, Scully just fills one more gap.

Scully is useful to have around to throw in their faces whenever I hear the claim from right wingers that only "extremist" lefty hippies are dumb enough to care about animal rights and veganism, which is a crock, since most lefties don't give a darn about animal rights. But I don't have a clue how Scully lives with himself, working for the anti-Endangered Species Act and pro-corporate farming Bushies and now the pro-hunting, anti-polar bear, anti-wolf Palin. He obviously hasn't made much of an ethical dent in their ideologies, if he has even attempted to do that (I was actually, naively, hoping he would try to educate Bush and Co. about animal rights after I read his book, but clearly it hasn't happened).

I stand humbled at such eloquent and pointed commentary on not only why the issue of Animals' Rights is very definitely a "political" issue that has serious and dangerous enemies in the halls of power - public and private, corporate, government, and media - but also the very serious, ever-increasing and damaging impact Welfarists and welfarist philosophy are having on the Movement and indeed on the animals, and Nature as a whole, they claim to want to protect. Kudos to Dr. Best. Please keep it up!

Lots of problems noted - but for most of us in animal advocacy activism, Scully was able to gather an untold, great number of improbable supporters for AR than the bulk of us could do in the combined, collective years of our lifetime. DOMINION remains a giant stepping stone in revealing to the masses the "abuse of power, the suffering of animals" and clearly, pricks the hearts of the most hard-hearted in this life-changing book in his Call to Mercy for the creatures of our planet. How many of his accusers and finger pointers from AR movement can claim this victory for the future of animal rights?
