              De Studenten van Noorwegen stemmen om Coca-Cola te beperken
Vrijdag, 14 November, 2008 De studenten bij de Universiteit van Oslo hebben overweldigend gestemd om de dominante aanwezigheid van de producten van Coca-Cola op campus te beperken, en ethische alternatieven te introduceren aan Coca-Cola op campus. ? In een resolutie die gisteren bij de Universiteit van de Raad van het Welzijn van Oslo wordt overgegaan (Velferdstinget I Oslo), zal het studentenlichaam nu de grootte van het contract van Coca-Cola, aanbiedings alternatieve dranken willen beduidend beperken die ethische en eerlijke handel zijn evenals goedkeurt stringentere criteria voor het ervoor zorgen dat de bedrijven die zaken met de Universiteit van Oslo doen sterke milieu en ethische verslagen hebben. Het studentenlichaam zal ook Coca-Cola over hun besluit informeren om Coca-Cola te beperken, aanhalend de praktijken van het bedrijf in India. ? De universiteit van de Raad van het Welzijn van Oslo is een studenten representatief lichaam dat op alle aspecten van het studentenleven bij de Universiteit van Oslo - grootste universitair Noorwegen toezicht houdt. ? Groepen van de student hadden zorgen geuit dat bij gebrek aan ethische producten op campus, de studenten geen keus dan hadden om Coca-Cola te steunen - dat zij wegens de immorele praktijken van het bedrijf in India problematisch vonden. ? De Gemeenschappen over India hebben tegen Coca-Cola een campagne gevoerd, belastend het bedrijf met het creëren van watertekorten en verontreiniging. Twee installaties van Coca-Cola zijn gesloten in India als resultaat van de campagne, en een Coca-Cola gefinancierde studie die in Januari 2008 wordt vrijgegeven heeft de sluiting van een andere bottelarij in India geadviseerd dat de significante rol van Coca-Cola in het verergeren van watertekorten aanhaalt. ? „Als studenten, willen wij Coca-Cola en andere ondernemingen een duidelijk bericht verzenden dat wij geen zaken gebruikelijk met bedrijven die in immorele praktijken in dienst nemen,“ bovengenoemde Mina van, coördinator van Attac bij de Universiteit van Oslo zullen doen die de campagne heeft geleid. ? We need such actions globally to ensure that we do not have to go through another summer with little or no access to water because of Coca-Cola,” said Mahesh Yogi of the Kala Dera Sangharsh Samiti, the community group demanding the closure of the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Kala Dera in the state of Rajasthan. ? Coca-Cola’s operations in India are coming under increasing scrutiny internationally, and the company has resorted to announcing ambitious “corporate social responsibility (CSR)” initiatives to counter the criticism, including the announcement that the company will become “water neutral” in India by 2009. ? “Increasing CSR initiatives around the world does nothing to improve the damages that Coca-Cola has caused locally in India,” said Amit Srivastava of the India Resource Center who also spoke at the Welfare Council meeting. “It is no longer a question of whether Coca-Cola has acted unethically in India, but rather what the Coca-Cola company will do to correct the wrongs in has committed in India. We will ensure that the longer they wait, the more consumers they will lose.” ?
