Nik,

You said what I wanted to say, but more eloquently. Ignore my rant above.

Sometimes people seem to have such a strong need to have their beliefs to be true that they are blind to reality or facts that contradict their beliefs. Noam is one of these people.

We should ALL do this exercise. Look for facts that contradict our beliefs.

Write an article about how China is humping Tibet. Europe humped the world. Everyone humps Africa (even Africa humps Africa). Burma humps Burma. Countries love to hump other countries. There's so much humping around that there are new countries being born.

Thanks for reading my rant.

I have deep respect for Noam Chomsky for standing alone as an independent voice. Nevertheless, his concern is too focused on US imperialism and therefore seemingly turns a blind eye to comparable ambitions of other nations such as Russia for example. Until humanity has evolved to a level where resistance against imperialism is unbiased among nations, long live the US empire. Kosovar people where lucky to benefit from US' vested interests in the Balkans region, be they strategic or economic. If they (Kosovars) chose US imperialism over Serbian neo-colonialism, it is because they had the support of the former to defeat the latter, which was a great opportunity. This, to say the least, brought freedom from oppression endured for decades. Often, criticism of US is so passionate that it easily transforms into a self-righteous monologue.

Don't forget that the apocalyptic figures Gog and Magog are usually placed in the Caucasus. This may not matter to secularists rationally pursuing oil, power, money. But it does matter to Dispensationalists like Sarah Palin and George Bush.
