Marijuana Special: Jorge Cervantes Interview - The Cannabis Guru

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Jorge Cervantes Cannabis Guru

Jorge Cervantes, the World’s leading expert on Cannabis cultivation, has watched and influenced an entire sub culture that sprang from a relatively unexplored science.

In 1983 he authored the first complete book about indoor cultivation which revolutionised the way gardeners produced medical Marijuana, with new and affordable technology emerging it was now possible for medicinal growers to utilise the same techniques used by the professionals.

CORRECTION:

Speaking about a quote circulating the Internet regarding the benefit Marijuana on MS suffers, Jorge says “I did not say that 97 percent of the MS patients . . . . This “News Release” was written by an old webmaster that used to work for me. Furthermore this quote does not come from Marijuana Horticulture: the Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower’s Bible. I had ordered this page removed along with my entire old site. This quote was posted by a person with absolutely no medical knowledge and that obviously he did not check his facts. I hired a new webmaster two years ago to make my current site. I had no idea that this page and crazy quote that I did not write was still on the internet.”

An immediate request has been made by Jorge to his current webmaster for the removal of this quote from his web site.

RINF Alternative News will be speaking to Jorge and would like to invite readers to take part and make your voice heard on this serious issue, no matter where you stand on the debate. The interview will lean towards the medical benefits, the law and what you can do to help end prohibition.

As Jorge is the World’s foreknowledge on Marijuana horticulture, we are also inviting a small forum of Amsterdam medical growers to take part so they can benefit from Jorge’s 30+ years of experience by asking questions about their own gardens.

Today, Jorge travels the World visiting grow rooms, continues to write books, produce DVD’s and is an outspoken activist for the end of prohibition.

Please post your questions for Jorge Cervantes on the RINF forums.

Bio for Jorge Cervantes

Jorge Cervantes developed his life-long fascination with cannabis as a university student in Mexico. After graduation, he moved to California in the 1970s where he became a “guerilla grower” of “sin semilla” (Spanish for without seeds) marijuana, the “new” high-quality cannabis that Mexicans reserved for domestic consumption. In the early 1980s Cervantes started growing indoors with High Intensity Discharge lights to escape detection and control the environment, harvesting four crops the first year. A lack of credence and information about indoor cultivation led him to author Indoor Marijuana Horticulture in 1983. The book became an instant best-seller and successful indoor growers dubbed it the “Indoor Grower’s Bible.” Today growers simply call it “The Bible.”

Now 52, Cervantes is a world-renowned expert on indoor, outdoor and greenhouse cannabis cultivation. He puts more than thirty years of expert cannabis growing knowledge and hands-on experience at your fingertips with his books, articles, photographs and a new DVD. His expert advice has guided millions of growers worldwide to apply simple effective horticultural techniques to high-yield closet, basement, backyard and guerilla gardens.

In his monthly question and answer column, Jorge’s Rx, in High Times, the flagship of the magazine’s cultivation section, Cervantes solves grower’s problems with definitive clarity. He also pens a regular column in Soft Secrets. The magazines boast the biggest circulation in North America and Europe respectively. Cervantes still finds the time to contribute feature cultivation articles to High Times, Burst High (Japanese) and a dozen European cannabis magazines. Multilingual Cervantes also speaks at eight international cannabis fairs in Europe every year. With five books in print and more than a half million books sold, you can find his works in Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish. Soon books will be available in Italian, Japanese and Russian.

Cervantes moved back to Spain where he lives near the Mediterranean Sea. He continues photograph and write about cannabis as well as travel the world to research this fascinating medicinal plant.

From what I have read Jorge Cervantes doesn’t do many interviews let alone ones where his fans can ask the questions.

This is going down in cannabis community history.

    Mr Cervantes,

The major cause of MS these days is a simple man made nano-bacteria, so small as to almost be a virus.
It causes neural damage as it does it’s work at the cellular level. A site from Australia addresses the Parkinson tremors as they are a result of the same damage but can be addressed with the same aggressive attack on the nano-bacteria followed closely with a series of chiropractic adjustnents and relaxation by the MSer to address tension on the spine affecting the “slow” side, be it left or right. The Parkinsons tremors will disappear once those two issues are properly addressed. The Parkinson rigidity may take longer but is worth the effort. No drugs, either legal or illegal are required. The following site displays what I describe. http://www.parkinsonsdiseasecure.com/index.html

I’ve been there, since the late 1940’s/early 1950’s. I’ve been to Lourdes France, and am growing tired of magical fixes by those promoting their own agenda for a simple man made “invisible” infection.
A phase contrast microscopy will not show the agent itself but will instead show what is doing to the body.

    Mr. Cervantes,

I would like to thank you for helping the millions of people, myself included, who are no longer suffering thanks to your brave efforts to expose the truth about this wonderful plant.

I would ask you, in your opinion, will the medical industry and governments ever see the light? What will it take, what do we have to do, to end these silly laws that prevent the sick from getting the help they need. Can you see this change in our lifetime or has the government invested too much money to turn back?

Finally Mr. Cervantes, I would again like to thank you for all the good you have done to help people like myself. You deserve a Knighthood from the Queen, and in a less corrupt and more fair world you would.

Thank you Mr. Cervantes for showing us how to HEAL OURSELVES.

    Dear Mr. Cervantes

This is a question I’m sure many have asked you.

I grow hydroponically but never seem to get the same quality and size of buds as seen in Amsterdam grow ops. I try to keep things as organic as possible but would be willing to sacrafice this for larger buds.

I use a mix of Biobizz Grow, Bloom and Topmax. Is there any other advise or any other feeds that will help me increase the size of my buds?

Thanks for the knowledge you’re sharing with us, you are a true revolutionary.

Jorge as a pioneer can you tell us how public views have changed towards Marijuana in general since the 70s, especially in the West?

Are the public more tolerant of it now or was the 1970s a golden age in public awareness and tolerance?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR BOOKS AND DVDS! THEY ARE THE BEST BAR NONE!

    Thank you!

I would like to ask Jorge about auxin control. As Techniques like SCROG are very popular at the moment for small growers with limited space what are your views on topping plants?

Some also claim that damaging the plant during flowering, such as slicing the leaves and stem with a blade increases the THC content. Have you experimented with this method or is it a myth?

Jorge Cervantes you have been an inspiration to me and my garden for many years now.

May I ask you; in your global experience what is the most potent strain you have encountered?

I once read a report that a black domina crossed with white russian (I think) can produce seeds with 40% THC levels. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, this is an opportunity I never could have dreamed of. You have made my week I assure you.

Dear Mr Cervantes there has been much said about cannabis and psychosis in the British press. Do you view a connection between the two or is this government propaganda?

What, if any, are the dangers of cannabis that we should be aware of?

    Thank you sir.

Mr Cervantes you have the best job in the world. But … have you ever been in trouble from governments in the various countries you travel to? Have there been times when you ended up in situations where you felt out of control due to the law or even from meeting large scale Cannabis barons?

I’d also like to know what strains you are smoking right now? Thank you for coming here to talk to us.

In the 5,000 years that cannabis has been in use by the human race we are the only culture to outlaw this natural growing weed.

What is the reason for this prohibition? What has the Government gained from it?

Gary Webb uncovered a CIA / coke operation. Do you suspect similar operations exist bewteen Government agencies and the distribution or production of cannabis?

Hiya Brandon, I believe that the grit in the grit-weed you speak of actually is tiny glass spherical balls which are utilised in road marking paint to provide reflection.

Thus, when one inspects the produce, one imagines it is loaded with crystals.

    cheers

I have done a few interviews in the past, but now I am taking on a more public image. There is so much going on in the field of cannabis cultivation world-wide, both recreational and medicinal, that I am compelled to do so. I will write more next week. Now I am on deadline. We are making the last corrections for ‘MARIJUANA: Orticoltura della cannabis La Bibbia del coltivatore MEDICO Indoor e Outdoor’ (Italian edition of ‘Marijuana Horticulture’). It is due at the printer next week. The book will be on the market late this year. The text for ‘Marijuana Horticulture’ is finished and proofed for editions in Dutch and Russian. They will go to print later this year and become available in Spring 2009.

The governments are already seeing the light regarding the medical marijuana industry. today in the USA there are 13 states that allow medical marijuana. However, there is still too much money in keeping cannabis illegal - lawyers, prisions, police forces, etc. are all benefiting from iligal cannabis. It is also a political football, one that is easy to kick at will. It will be like the old Soviet Union, as soon as it is so topheavy that it cannot exist, prohibition will fall. Then all the politicos will say “I was with the movement all the time.”

    Stuart Cola,

Cannabis grown in North America and all over Europe including the UK rivals that of The Netherlands and in many cases it is better. Dutch coffeeshop dope is most often “screened” that is, the buds are bounced around on a silkscreen before being sold to the coffeeshops. Screening knocks off about 5% of the resin which sieves through the screen. The resin is then pressed into high quality hash.

Growing big thick buds is not too dificult. I do not answer direct questions about growing in public places like this. But I will address such questions in my audio interview in September.

I wrote an article called “The History of Pot” which ran in High Times magazine (USA) a few years ago. it is 2300+ words. I will see if I can get my webmaster, who is on vacation now, to post it on my website. When it is posted, I will share the link.

In general public views have changed since the 70s from marijuana being a symbol of counterculture to one of the evil weed in the late 80s and 90s. Today it is still considered evil by many and others consider it begnin. During the past 10 years cannabis is gaining ground as a natural medicine.

It is difficult to say whether cannabis is more tolerated now than before. Many of the laws are more stict now than earlier, but the fact that cannabis has been around in the public eye for so long makes it more tolerated. None-the-less, there are more people than ever being arrested for cannabis posession than ever before. The site http://www.normal.org is full of arrest statistics that show more than 800,000 people in the USA are arrested annually for cannabis possesion/growing.

I have not personally tested LED (Light-emitting diode) lamps, however I have visited two gardens that grew respectible buds. I just wrote an answer in my “Jorge’s Rx” column that appears in High Times December 2008 issue. I was quite impressed with the new high potency LEDs. The LEDs must use at least one watt per lamp to grow a respectable garden. The gardens I saw were one meter (40 x 40 inches) and illuminated with a single 85w cluster of red and blue LEDs. The buds were not as dense as when grown under HID lamps. I believe there is a big place in the market for such lamps and that technology will improve and the price for them $600 USD or 600€ will drop in relation to demand.

Topping plants, cutting the main stem will make plants branch out more. It also diffuses auxins, hormones that make plants grow upward. Auxins are most concentrated in the central stem. One of the goals in indoor growing is to harvest plants quickly. Cutting the main stem off retards harvest.

Hacking off leaves for any reason does not increase THC content.

Hi Jorge, what is the best method of curing? I’m a fan of a 4 day water cure because the end product is very clean and is ready in less than a week.

On one of your DVDs you show mix of a paper bag and air drying method, since my DVD was “borrowed” I’ve never been able to try this method.

“yeah man its cool, take a slug of this man its real groovy man.”

The biggest problem for me is the tobacco that goes with the whole scene, that product is definitely unsafe.

It does show we live in a Hypocracy and not a democracy when
we allow Toxic tobacco and Alcohol and deny less harmful substances.

Good on you for ignoring the idiots at the top and doing your own thing.
