Vrijdag, 26 September, 2008 De Sneeuw van Jon, kanaliseert 4 nieuwsanker, openbaart zijn woede op Radio 4 bij nieuws elektriciteitspanne op Prins Harry plaatsing aan Afghanistan. Op een programma dat met pro-oorlogsjournalisten wordt gestapeld, werd hij gevraagd door media analist Steve Hewlett hoe hij van mening was toen hij te weten kwam er een embargo was geweest. De sneeuw antwoordde: Ik was absoluut woedend gemaakt. Ik kon niet geloven dat 400 redacteurs tot dit konden ondertekend hebben. Waarom? Omdat wij een protocol hebben wij waarvan op elke werkdag van de week leven die is dat als iemand kwetsbaar in termen van nationale veiligheid een beweging maakt of wat er ook wij goed van het kunnen op de hoogte zijn maar wij niet de in feite luisteraar zullen vertellen Als Bruin gaat naar Irak af u volkomen goed kent omdat u uw eigen regelingen moet maken maar u spreekt niet over het. Het schijnt aan me dat er niets zo zeer verschillend over een beweging van Prins Harry aan Afghanistan waren en als zij volledige geheimhouding wilden kon het met dat protocol passen Het argument van de media organisaties die samen met het gingen was dat dit was in wezen wat zij soort van gedaan hadden. Nr, en het is niet waar. Ik ben me zeker ervan bewust dat de basis van de bespreking was: als u niet tot dit ondertekent zal hij niet gaan, zullen wij niet opstellen. Daarom werden de media plotseling die met een rol in de plaatsing van een militair aan Afghanistan worden belast, dat een bizarste positie scheen binnen te zijn. Dit stond propaganda op het punt, was dit niet journalistiek, ferreting dit niet bij de waarheid te krijgen, deed dit het bieden van iemand anders, was dit het beeld dat het Ministerie van Defensie en gewilde anderen de voorpagina's van de kranten overbrachten, was dit een gat in één voor Palace, de militaire autoriteiten en de Prins Harry, was er geen journalistiek die bij allen, niet één element wordt geïmpliceerd� van het. De media, zeker BBC, who were in this like everyone else, would dispute that, they would say that the quality of access, that one of the reasons that the deal took some time to stitch together was that arguments over – it appears to me anyway, they appear to be saying – the quality and amount and depth of access, so they are saying that the access enabled them to tell more of the story, to let listeners and viewers see more of what is really going on in Afghanistan because of the access they got because of the deal they had done. That’s complete garbage, isn’t it. Do you think…? Absolute garbage. What was going on? What was going on was a number of posed photographs. Did they say: “We moved around the village and Harry posed on a motorbike. Whose it was we don’t know, it was red, it was probably nicked from some Afghan.” What was the truth? Does an air traffic controller actually shoot from a machine gun nest? The BBC didn’t reveal this to us. No, this was a series of manipulated photo-opportunities, it was not journalism and did not in any sense describe what was going on in Afghanistan. Were you surprised at the reaction to your comments? Not remotely. Not remotely. Do you think 400 editors who have sold their souls for a mess of pottage are in some way going to start being nice to me about my one lone voice of rebellion? No, absolutely not. But I know I was right. And I have to tell you, I have had a vast mailbag from editors, friends, journalists, other people saying: “Spot on mate” – and viewers too. Has it done the prince any good? I think it’s done the press a lot of harm. Has it done the prince any good? Of course. Of course it’s a much better image than someone rolling around in the street half drunk. This is an interesting story . Good on Jon Snow for speaking his mind . The fact that the media ‘The Whole Mass Media’ could have been brought into this is very telling indeed . A matter of public security , maybe . But then again all the coverage was or as Jon Snow seem to imply ‘It was staged’ ! . Maybe he went maybe he was in the Gobi Dessert who will ever know for sure ? . But the importent issue here is the ‘Secrecy’ ! . If the ‘Mass Media’ can be ‘Told What They Can Or Cannot Say’ , whether this be true or fiction , then what else are they being told to tell us . Maybe nothing . But i smell a rat . Don’t you ? .
