Insulate the cavity walls & loft with as much insulation as you can afford and particularly insulate your water heater. The the next job is to collect your rainwater & use that to fill your loo & water your garden etc. For me its a rolling scientific project and in 3 -4 years of gradual development my lighting system is completely off the grid & the next phase will eb to be totally self sufficient.
