The Republic of Yorkshire? جمهورية يوركشر؟
Did you know that there is an entity called هل تعلم ان هناك كيان يسمى Yorkshireurope Yorkshireurope and that they have an embassy in Brussels? وان يكون لديها سفاره في بروكسل؟
Avenue de Cortenbergh 118-1000 Brussels to be precise. دي الجاده cortenbergh 118-1000 بروكسل على وجه الدقه.
Even more curiously they refer to themselves as an “intelligence agency”. حتى أكثر من الغريب انها تشير الى نفسها بوصفها "وكالة الاستخبارات".
They are funded by وهي تمول من قبل Yorkshire Forward يوركشر الامام , who’s logo is curiously close to being a swastika. ، والذي هو شعار الغريب قريبة من كونها الصليب المعقوف.
One wonders, who exactly has voted for any of this? ويتساءل المرء ، من بالضبط قد صوتوا لصالح اي من هذا؟
The head of Yorkshire Forward is رئيس يوركشر الامام this guy هذا الرجل , where his biography page declares that “He is currently Chair of Magna Holdings Ltd., a property development and investment company ” ، اين صاحب السيره الصفحه تعلن ان "وهو حاليا رئيس ماجنا المقتنيات المحدوده ، وهي ممتلكات شركة التنمية والاستثمار"
hmmm… do a smell a conflict of interest? 11:31 hmmm… هل رائحة بتضارب المصالح؟
He of course completely unelected and yet in charge of EU regional policy in Yorkshire. وهو بالطبع غير منتخب بالكامل ولكن في الاتحاد الاوروبي المسؤول عن السياسة الاقليمية في يوركشر.
Also from his bio: ايضا من بلدة الاحياءيه :
“He believes that continuous learning is critical to success in a fast-changing world.” "وقال انه يعتقد ان التعلم المستمر امر حاسم لنجاح في عالم سريع التغير".

But I disgress. ولكنني disgress. Yorkshire Forward’s accounts are يوركشر الامام للحسابات available from here متوفر من هنا . On page 40 we learn of an body called the “Yorkshire and Humber Assembly” - is that the Yorkshire regional parliament? وفي الصفحه 40 ونحن نتعلم من هيئة تسمى "يوركشر وHumber جمعية" -- هي ان يوركشر البرلمان الاقليمي؟ A parliament that nobody voted for? اي ان البرلمان صوت لاحد؟
We learn on page of the (very glossy and very expensive to produce) report that : نحن نتعلم على الصفحه الاولى من (صقيله جدا ومكلفه جدا لانتاج) التقرير ان :
Yorkshire Forward has 431 staff يوركشر الامام 431 موظفا
It’s budget in 2006/07 was £354 million انها في ميزانيه 2006/07 كان 354 مليون جنيه استرليني
It’s work is scrutinised by the Yorkshire Regional Assembly انه عمل فحص من قبل الجمعية الاقليمية يوركشر
note how it isn’t the House of Commons doing the scrutiny نلاحظ كيف انها ليست لجنة مجلس العموم تفعل التدقيق

Mr Riordan is the السيد ريوردان هو chief executive الرئيس التنفيذى of Yorkshire Forward. يوركشر من الامام. On his bio it’s mentioned that he represented “the UK in United Nations negotiations on climate change and endangered species” despite having no qualifications in environmental science. على صاحب الاحيائي انه ذكر انه لا يمثل "المملكه المتحدة في الامم المتحدة مفاوضات بشان تغير المناخ والانواع المهدده بالانقراض" على الرغم من انه لا يملك مؤهلات في العلوم البيءيه. He’s got a modern history degree from Oxford. لقد حصل على درجة أ التاريخ الحديث من جامعة اكسفورد.
He has never been elected to any political office. وقال انه لم يكن ابدا المنتخب الى أي منصب سياسي.
Getting back to the regional assembly, it’s website is بدأت العودة الى الجمعية الاقليمية ، ومن هو في موقع over here أكثر من هنا . On their علي assembly structures page الجمعية هياكل الصفحه it’s mentioned that they are overseen by a “scrutiny board”. انها ذكرت انها تشرف عليها "مجلس فحص".
“The Scrutiny Board is made up of full Assembly members and is chaired by the Deputy Chair of the Assembly. "مجلس فحص تتكون من كامل اعضاء الجمعية ويرأسها نائب رئيس الجمعية. If a review requires specialist knowledge there is the facility to co-opt two additional members.” اذا استعراض يتطلب المعرفه المتخصصه التي لا يوجد مرفق لاختيار عضوين اضافيين. "
So this regional assembley scrutinises itself. حتى هذا الاقليمية assembley scrutinises نفسها. How convienient… كيف مريحه…
The assembly الجمعية العامة membership is available over here عضوية متاح أكثر من هنا . Members are not elected - they are “nominated”. اعضاء غير منتخبين -- وهم "رشح".

From the regional assembly meeting minutes من الجمعية الاقليمية للاجتماع دقائق some curious aspects are mentioned: غريبة بعض الجوانب المذكورة هي :
2010 appears to be a deadline of sorts. 2010 يبدو ان الموعد النهائي للانواع. And the mention of “Regional Ministers” is interesting. وذكر "الاقليمية وزراء" أمر مثير للاهتمام. I wonder who’ll they’ll be reporting to. ولا ادرى من الذى سوف انها سوف تقدم تقاريرها إلى.
