No because the tin foil hat brigade will try to hijack it. The moderated comments guarantees higher editorial standards.

No because people who use terms like ‘tin foil hat brigade’ will try to hijack it. If the forum is populated by group thinkers then I will be banned for sure! ;o)

PS The site looks great by the way!

A forum is a good idea but it is also open to attract the odd idiot who thinks the world is pink and fluffy.

I think that a forum would be a great idea for stimulating debates and seeing others points of view and the section on civil and human rights issues is particularly important in this day and age . I do not see trolls or inflamatery comments as a problem as after all a forum can be moderated against people who just want too argue without a valid point .

I probably wouldn’t use it as I just get my news on the RSS, but hey why the hell not have a forum?

    The site looks fantastic btw

Yes, I believe in the free exchange of information and as pointed out it could be moderated to some degree. We can learn much from others and one would hope that we all have enough common sense to differentiate the serious speakers from those who only want to impose and see themselves in print.
    Thank you,
    Carol

Hey guys I had an old laptop running XP Pro. A couple of weeks ago, every time I would connect to the internet via DSL or wireless, the hard drive light would come on - as if it were writing something to the hard drive. It would cause IE to run slower than dial-up. I looked in task manager and although the CPU usage was high, there didn’t seem to be a process listed that was using it. I used LavaSoft Adaware to scan on a regular basis as well as Norton 2005. I eventually gave up and bought a new laptop (Vista Home), which now has the same problem. It is obviously related to something that I copied over to the new computer from the old computer. But the things is, Norton Internet security isn’t picking up a virus. I used it to scan everything before copying it on to the new computer. Has anyone heard of such a thing or had the same problem? I’d much rather be able to find and remove the problem rather than restore.

    Thanks!

Perhaps we could draw up a list of topics not suitable for a forum as determined by rinf members?

My list would be something like this

    No racism (inc zionism stuff)
    No conspiracy (911, illuminati, etc)
    No personal attacks
    No spam links

A forum is a great idea , not only would it help build a better sense of a community identity online , but the swapping and sharing of common ideiology and more important EDUCATION of those that may be fully under the spell of false media lies has too be worthwhile for me! . Also i would think that some moderation would be a sensible option , as long as it just weeded out the dissruptive but not overly moderated too stifle freedom of speach . There is enough of that already and i would like to think that we would spot the genuinely passionate from the irritatingly futile statement! .

Oh please do not get me wrong i am not saying that this site is not educational , far from it . All i am saying is that having a healthy conversation with people who do not realy understand or who may mistake the alt-medias intentions could be just as effective , if not more so at getting the message across than just leaving comments . A topic or subject could reach its full potential rather than just a few soundbites and i feel that this would have a greater impact . I hope this helps? . Simon

    Thanks for your input guys.

Moderation is a concern to me because I currently remove a fair bit of spam, racism and crazy stuff from article comments.

Guidelines would be needed in order to keep the forum clean but there is a fine line between freedom of speech and censorship.

Forum content would be indexed by google and provide more inbound links and traffic. The more people who know about alternative madia the better.

    An idea,

lets have a forum for sure, don’t let the idiots spoil genuine readers fun & networking etc. And if any stuff has to be removed by MM - put in to a section which is deliberately designed for Spam, racism and crazy stuff etc. let people decide if they want to read it in that excluded section.

It would be a web first - censorship without total censorship so to speak.

That way it is obvious the content of that box is not acceptable to RINF or the vast majority of reasonable people. Then those like me who just love to give mindless morons a good old fashioned thrashing first thing in the morning can get stuck in.

    Good ideas.

I reckon two ‘off topic’ sections would cover things, maybe a ‘fringe’ area for the more questionable side of research/theories/activism. Maybe members should be allowed to reply on these threads but they will not be highlighted on the front page or given any kind of promotion on the newswire.

And a ‘bin’ area that would contain offensive posts. Threads in here would be locked and eventually deleted.

Why do you want a forum?. Compared to people online, hardly anybody uses the medium provided now. People are obviously reading the articles, but hey when it comes to throwing in their two cents worth thats a bit of a no no.

I would use a forum but this is my first comment.

I usually wont post comments because I cant tack my posts and anyone can use my name if they want to and post as me.

Discussions have a short life span because the articles are only on the front page for a little while. A forum would work differently.
