Ex-Guantanamo man: “Torture is terrorism” غوانتانامو السابقين الرجل : "ان التعذيب هو الارهاب"
By Opheera McDoom - KHARTOUM | من جانب opheera mcdoom -- الخرطوم | Reuters رويترز - Al Jazeera journalist Sami al-Haj returned home to Sudan on Friday after more than six years in the US-run Guantanamo Bay prison, urging Washington to respect human rights and branding torture as terrorism. -- صحفى الجزيرة سامي الحاج عاد الى السودان يوم الجمعة بعد اكثر من ست سنوات في لنا تديرها سجن خليج غوانتانامو ، حث واشنطن على احترام حقوق الانسان والتعذيب ووصمها بالارهاب.
Haj said he and the other Guantanamo detainees had been subjected to all kinds of torture, but the worst had been when his jailers insulted Islam or desecrated the Koran in front of prisoners. الحاج : قال انه وغيره من معتقلى جوانتانامو تعرضوا لجميع انواع التعذيب ، ولكن اسوأ عندما كان السجانون اهانة الاسلام او تدنيس القرآن امام السجناء.
“Security and human rights are inseparable issues — you cannot have one without the other,” he told Reuters in an interview. "الأمن وحقوق الانسان هي قضايا لا يمكن الفصل -- انت ولا يمكن ان يكون لاحدهما دون الاخر" ، وقال لرويترز في مقابلة.
“Human rights are not only for times of peace — you need to hold onto them always even during difficult times and times of war,” he added. "حقوق الانسان ليست فقط لاوقات السلام -- انت بحاجة الى التمسك بها دائما حتى خلال الاوقات الصعبة واوقات الحرب".
“My last message to the US administration is that torture will not stop terrorism — torture is terrorism.” "رسالتي الأخيرة رسالة إلى الإدارة الأميركية أن التعذيب لن يوقف الارهاب -- والتعذيب هو الارهاب."
Haj looked frail but visibly stronger than 12 hours earlier, when he arrived in chains aboard a US military plane from the US prison in Cuba, where he spent the last 16 months on hunger strike in protest at his illegal detention. نظرت الى الحج واهية ولكن واضح أقوى من 12 ساعة في وقت سابق ، وعندما وصل في سلاسل على متن طائرة عسكرية امريكيه من السجون الاميركية في كوبا ، حيث أمضى 16 شهرا الماضية على الاضراب عن الطعام احتجاجا على الاعتقال غير القانوني له.
Lying on his hospital bed he barely had enough strength to greet President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and the dozens of ministers and well-wishers ecstatic at his return. وهو يرقد على سرير المستشفى وهو بالكاد ما يكفي من القوة لتحية الرئيس عمر حسن البشير وعشرات من الوزراء وراغبون جيدا منتشي بعودته.
His brother Asim collapsed with exhaustion on his arrival after the years of campaigning for his release finally drew to an end. شقيقه عاصم انهارت مع استنفاد وصوله بعد سنوات من الحملات لاطلاق سراحه واخيرا لفت الى نهايتها.
Al-Haj met his eight-year-old son Mohamed for the first time since his son was a year old in an emotional reunion. الحاج ينفذ والبالغ من العمر ثماني سنوات ابنه محمد لاول مرة منذ ابنه كان عمره العاطفي في ريونيون. The cameraman was arrested near the Afghan border in 2001 and later taken to the highly criticised US military base in Cuba. المصور اعتقل بالقرب من الحدود الافغانيه في وقت لاحق فى عام 2001 والتي اتخذت لغاية انتقدت الولايات المتحدة قاعدة عسكرية في كوبا.
“His mother was constantly sending me pictures of him … but even if I had not seen the picture I would have known him among thousands of children by my strong sense of fatherhood,” he said. "والدته التى كانت على الدوام ارسال لي صور له… ولكن حتى اذا كان لي ان لا ينظر الى الصورة واود ان يكون على علم له من بين الالاف من الاطفال من جانب بلدي احساس قوي الابوه".
Haj will spend the next few days undergoing tests in the hospital after his hunger strike and months of force feeding twice a day left him weak and with many ailments. الحج وسوف تنفق خلال الايام القليلة المقبلة تشهد التجارب في المستشفى بعد اضراب عن الطعام والتغذيه اشهر من القوة مرتين في اليوم ، وتركوه ضعيفا مع العديد من الامراض.
“God willing our happiness and celebrations will be complete once our brothers left in Guantanamo prison are released,” he said. "ان شاء الله سعادتنا والاحتفالات وسوف تكون كاملة مرة واحدة تركت اخواننا في سجن غوانتانامو يتم الافراج".
