Bush Administration Sued for Allowing Use of Pesticides رفع دعوى ضد ادارة بوش على السماح لاستخدام مبيدات الافات
By بواسطة Jo Hartley جو هارتلي | Environmental and farm worker groups have now sued the Bush administration for allowing the continued use of four pesticides. | والبيءيه والزراعية ومجموعات العمال والآن رفع دعوى ضد ادارة الرئيس جورج بوش لسماحها باستمرار استخدام اربعة من مبيدات الافات. They claim that the government brushed aside its own evidence that the chemicals are toxic to workers, children, and animals. وتدعي أن الحكومة تنحيتها جانبا الخاصة بها دليل على ان المواد الكيمياءيه السامه الى العمال ، والأطفال ، والحيوانات.
The suit challenged the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 decision to reauthorize the four pesticides used on fruit and vegetable fields in California. دعوى الطعن في وكالة حمايه البيئة لعام 2006 قرار اعادة تخول الاربعة مبيدات الافات المستخدمة في مجالات الفاكهة والخضر في كاليفورنيا.
A 1996 federal law required the EPA to reassess the safety of all pesticides used on foods. في عام 1996 القانون الاتحادي يتطلب اعادة تقييم وكالة حمايه البيئة على سلامة جميع الاغذيه على استخدام مبيدات الافات. Based on this reassessment, واستنادا الى عملية اعادة التقييم هذه ، the EPA فان وكالة حمايه البيئة was to decide whether to approve their use. وكان ان تقرر ما اذا كانت الموافقة على استخدامها. The ال EPA وكالة حمايه البيئة found that four substances posed substantial risks to human health but they concluded that the cost savings to growers outweighed the dangers to humans. وجدت ان المواد الاربع التي طرحت كبيرة المخاطر على صحه الانسان لكنها خلصت الى ان وفورات في التكاليف على المزارعين تفوق المخاطر التي يتعرض لها البشر.
These four هذه القضايا الأربع pesticides مبيدات الحشرات reportedly put thousands of farm workers and their families at risk of serious illness. وتفيد التقارير وضع الاف من عمال المزارع واسرهم لخطر الاصابة بمرض خطير.
EPA spokesman Tim Lyons stated that the agency would review the lawsuit and respond in court. وصرح الناطق باسم وكالة حمايه البيئة تيم ليون وذكرت الوكالة ان الاستعراض الدعوى والرد عليها في المحكمه. However, they did say: “Our mission is to protect ومع ذلك ، فلم تكن يقول : "ان مهمتنا هي حمايه the environment البيئة and human health.” وصحه الانسان. "
California officials have officially classified one of the pesticides (ethoprop) as a carcinogen. كاليفورنيا المسؤولون المصنفه رسميا واحد من مبيدات الافات (ethoprop) لانها من مسببات السرطان. The state requires manufacturers to disclose this risk on any product label but cannot outright ban the pesticide because it has the EPA’s approval. الدولة المصنعين يتطلب الافصاح عن هذه المخاطر على اي منتج علامة ولكنها لا يمكن ان الحظر التام مبيدات الافات لانه يملك وكالة حمايه البيئة للموافقة عليها. The suit said the pesticide, which is mainly used on potatoes, sugarcane, and tobacco, has been linked to fish deaths and has also begun to drift from fields into nearby rural communities. وقالت الدعوى لمبيدات الافات التي تستخدم بصورة اساسية على البطاطس ، قصب السكر ، والتبغ ، وقد ربط إلى وفاة الاسماك وبدأت ايضا العاءمه الكبيرة القريبه من الحقول في المجتمعات الريفيه.
Another pesticide (methidathion) has been listed as an air contaminant by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation due to the potential health hazards associated with it. آخر مبيدات الافات (methidathion) كما تم ادراج جو ملوث من قبل ادارة ولاية كاليفورنيا لائحة المبيدات نظرا لامكانيه المخاطر الصحية المرتبطه بها. This chemical is used on artichokes, oranges, almonds, peaches and olives in California. وتستخدم هذه المادة الكيمياءيه على الخرشوف ، والبرتقال ، واللوز ، والخوخ والزيتون في ولاية كاليفورنيا.
The other two pesticides are methamidophos (used mostly on potatoes and cotton) and oxydemeton-methyl (used on broccoli, lettuce, cauliflower, corn, cabbage and Brussels sprouts). الاخريين المبيدات ميثاميدوفوس (تستخدم في معظم الاحيان على القطن والبطاطس) وoxydemeton - الميثيل (التي تستخدم على القرنبيط ، الخس ، القرنابيط ، والذرة ، الملفوف وبراعم بروكسل). The suit stated that both have been associated with bird deaths. وذكر ان الدعوى على حد سواء قد تعاونوا مع الطيور وفاة. Methamidophos has been banned or severely restricted in several countries in recent years. ميثاميدوفوس وقد المحظوره او المقيده بشدة في العديد من البلدان في السنوات الاخيرة. Oxydemeton-methyl is now linked to birth defects. Oxydemeton - ميثيل الآن مرتبطة العيوب الخلقيه.
The basis for the lawsuit is the EPA’s own findings about the risks associated with these four pesticides. الاساس لدعوى قضائية هي وكالة حمايه البيئة للما تتوصل اليه من نتائج بشأن المخاطر المرتبطه بهذه اربعة مبيدات الافات.
Federal law allows the agency latitude to approve the continued use of risky pesticides such as these based on offsetting benefits. ويسمح القانون الاتحادي للوكاله ان توافق على خط العرض استمرار استخدام مبيدات الافات الخطره مثل هذه الموازنه على اساس المنافع. The main benefit preventing the EPA ban of these chemicals is, not surprisingly, cost savings. ان الميزه الرئيسية لمنع وكالة حمايه البيئة لحظر هذه المواد الكيمياءيه هي ، وليس من المدهش ، وفورات في التكاليف. However, the EPA has failed to address the specific dangers each pesticide poses to children. ومع ذلك ، فان وكالة حمايه البيئة اخفقت في التصدي للمخاطر المحددة لكل مبيد يطرح للاطفال. It has also not taken into adequate account the potential adverse effects on farm workers or to wildlife. كما انها لم تؤخذ في الاعتبار الكافي الى الآثار السلبيه المحتملة على عمال المزارع او الى الحياة البرية.
The suit is seeking a court order requiring the agency to re-evaluate once again the use of these pesticides. الدعوى لامر من المحكمه التي تسعى الوكالة التي تحتاج الى اعادة تقييم مرة اخرى استخدام هذه المبيدات. Plaintiffs in the suit include the United Farm Workers, the Teamsters, Pesticide Action Network North America, Beyond Pesticides and the Natural Resources Defense Council. المدعون في الدعوى تشمل الامم عمال المزارع ، سائقو الشاحنات ، وشبكة عمل مبيدات الافات أمريكا الشمالية ، وأبعد من مبيدات الافات ومجلس الدفاع عن الموارد الطبيعيه.
