Elliptical Machines Versus Treadmills – What’s The Difference?

by Ben Parabas

Treadmills still are the tradional method of an indoor workout machine. But elliptical machines are slowly creeping into threatening that position because of it’s verstility and the fact that it is easier on your body with lower impacting exercises.

These elliptical machines also provide a more well rounded workout because if it’s multi-functional exercises all while doing so on one machine. However there are a still good amount of people who like treadmills for several reasons.

The group of people who still like what treadmills do for them are mainly those who are active and advid runners, joggers and walkers. These people still feel that running, walking or jogging present the best overall cardio workout, so naturally they feel more closer to home using a treadmill.

A treadmill also has it’s positive for the group that are looking into buying these workout machines because treadmills can be easily installed within one’s home for convienency while adding several different types of running or walking exercises.

These exercises are running/walking uphill for a more strenous workout; changing speeds on your treadmill for faster or slower runs/walks and the ability to monitor your activity using one of the treadmill indicators that can come with these machines such
as heart rate monitor, miles ran/walked etc…

Elliptical machines on the other hand more exercises than just one like the treadmill. These exercises take advantage of the elliptical motions of the machines and can workout both lower and upper body through various of exercises. Although running isn’t one of them usually, in order to get your heart pumping, you can do multiple exercise at a more rapid pace.

And since there is less pounding of the knees and legs, elliptical machines can offer a more complete workout than treadmills without the constant pounding on the knees, lets and joints. Both are used because of its portability and convience so that exercisers can accomplish their workouts in the comforts of their own home.

As far price goes, I would say that it would be based on each person on what is affordable to them. You can a treadmill or an elliptical machine for as cheap as a couple of hundred dollars, and can range in a couple of thousands of dollars. A good mid-range to shoot for would be between $800-$1500 dollars.

Within this price range you will have plenty of options that can suit you and your exercising needs.
