Dissident “threat” at all time high, despite MI5 “huge effort.”

By Brian Walker | The police assessment is, in fact, that the dissident threat is at an all-time high.” This is the theme of a major report by David McKittrick in today’s Independent. It follows up evidence given this week by the Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde to the Commons NI select committee.

McKittrick quotes:

MI5 and the Special Branches in both parts of Ireland pour huge effort and huge resources into combating the dissident republicans, with some success. Efforts to smuggle in weaponry through Lithuania and the Balkans have been thwarted.

This intertwining of high politics and low terrorism is something that concerns the authorities, who want to get the political show on the road. They already detect a new attitude towards the police, a senior officer reporting: “There is a huge wind of change out there. I have seen that in a number of investigations – there is a completely different response to police on the ground.”

Imagine the nightmare of a $ociety that had no dissidents. Might as well be a chicken in a factory farm.

It's not the fact that the dissident threat is high that should be worrying MI5 and other agencies it's the fact that everyone in Ireland and Northern Ireland either knows somebody or has a connection in some way to the republican movement and are slowly but surely finding out that factions in their government are trying to screw over the common folk and bring in big money for buisnesses, who then will the people turn to? the government or the guys they know will sort it out. If you remember Derry in the 70's + 80's 70% of buisnesses were destroyed and very little investment was brought into the city causing widespread poverty in the lower class region leading to high crime rates ect…. my point is unless the government ect realise this then Ireland itself as a whole is in for a very very rough ride, never mind the republican dissidents because they will grow in number no matter what anyway, it's giving them a reason to strike that should be troubling people.
