On last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart first mocked President Barack Obama for his dishonest rhetoric regarding his health care act, specifically the promise that people could keep their plans and their doctors, “period” (usually, Stewart points out, speeches don’t include reading the punctuation). Then Stewart let loose on Fox News for its unending stream of lies about the Affordable Care Act.
“Yes, the president has been somewhat dishonest about the promise of his health care program. But here’s the weird part: his opponents have been lying like motherf*ckers about its effects,” The Daily Showhost said on Monday night.
Fox News has made ridiculous claims like people will go to prison if they don’t sign up, and conservatives like Dr. Ben Carson have likened Obamacare to slavery. Such over-the-top rhetoric seems unneccessary given the real-life difficulties the roll-out has encountered.
“My guess is, you’re gonna be able to find some people who do not benefit from this law and some people who are actually burdened by this law. But don’t pretend that the old system was Cocoon,” Stewart said ,referring to the movie where old people meet friendly aliens who enable them to never die.
