US launching 'new version' of Cold War

The United States has been Å“launching a new version of the Cold War” with Russia since Moscow granted temporary asylum to American Whistleblower Edward Snowden earlier this month, says a journalist.

On Friday, US resident Barack Obama said that Russia has adopted a more anti-American attitude reminiscent of the Cold War since Vladimir Putin returned to power as president.

Relations between the two military giants strained further after Moscow granted one-year asylum to Snowden, a former CIA contractor who is wanted in the US for espionage.

Å“The world is going to be threatened again with not only a diplomatic and an economic and a political, but ultimately perhaps a military confrontation between the United States and Russia, Rick Rozoff, manager of the Stop NATO organization, said in a phone interview with Press TV on Saturday.

The US political elite has chosen Russia as an external enemy to galvanize anger towards Russia and deflect attention from its crimes against its own people, Rozoff said.

Å“Heroic” Edward Snowden has embarrassed the Obama administration and exposed the US police state, Rozoff said, adding that the United States is in a state of desperation from its intractable economic, social and other domestic problems.
