The US surveillance and assassination drone programs flout domestic and international laws while disregarding basic human rights, an analyst tells Press TV.
Å“It is a very dangerous policy. Itâ„¢s a complete violation of international law and of US law. It is really sheer lawlessness,” said Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center.
The analyst criticized the US drone program, saying most of these attacks have been Å“carried out without the people in the US even knowing that theyâ„¢re happening.”
Å“There is absolutely no justification, no credible excuse whatsoever and none that should be accepted by any of the people of the world. Thereâ„¢s a real responsibility here in the US to challenge this criminal policy,” said Flounders.
The US also deploys assassination drones overseas Å“targeting one country after another, and is responsible for killing thousands of people – overwhelmingly women and children,” the expert said.
Washington claims that its airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.
Flounders went on to highlight that the US drone program has made Å“huge profits” for military contractors who reinvest into the program to produce Å“a whole new generation of drone weapons.”
The United Nations has called the US drone attacks “targeted killings” that flout international law.
