UK govt. ignores sex offenders: Charity

UK govt. criticized for failure to deal with sex offenders

A charity has criticized the British government for its failure to deal with child sex offenders.

A charity which campaigns against child exploitation has criticized the British government for its failure to crack down on the child sex trade.

The charity End Child Prostitution, Pornography and Trafficking (ECPAT) accused the UK government of failing to tighten up the rules on child sex offenders travelling abroad.

œBritish governments have a responsibility to protect children not just in their country but children abroad from their citizens,” said Bharti Patel from the ECAPT.

The criticism came after an ITV investigation raised concerns that British child sex offenders are easily travelling abroad and potentially abusing children.

In the first episode of a new series of ITV™s Exposure documentary, former police detective Mark Williams Thomas poses as a British sex tourist in Cambodia.

A secret footage in the programme showed a Briton, who was jailed by the Cambodian authorities in 2012 for sex offences, grooming or abusing boys.

Earlier in March, a shocking investigation found that Britain has more than 18,000 profiled paedophiles/child abusers, a majority of whom are being leniently released into the society to repeat their crimes.
