A droga Ritalin do deficit da atenção pode provocar mudanças a longo prazo nos cérebros de crianças novas.

A faculdade médica de Weill Cornell dos investigadores em New York City conduziu o estudo. Após ter olhado os cérebros de ratos novos, encontraram mudanças nas áreas do cérebro que controlam funcionar executivo mais elevado, addiction e apetite, relacionamentos sociais e stress.

Anotaram que estas mudanças desapareceram gradualmente enquanto os ratos foram feitos exame fora da droga.

Scientists warn doctors must be careful in diagnosing ADHD and prescribing Ritalin because the brain changes.

It could help children with the disorder but could cause harm to children with healthy brains.

The study was published in the Journal of Neuroscience.
