Η Ρωσία λέει ότι η Μεγάλη Βρετανία έχει βλάψει τη συνεργασία αντι-τρόμου

Η Ρωσία κατηγόρησε σήμερα τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία για την επιδίωξη μιας πολιτικής αντιμετώπισης αλλά σταμάτησε λίγο πριν από μια άμεση αποβολή tit-για-κουρελιών των διπλωματών πέρα από την υπόθεση Litvinenko. Ο αναπληρωτής υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Ρωσίας, Αλέξανδρος Grushko, εν λόγω Μόσχα «σύντομα» θα ενημέρωνε την κυβέρνηση για τα αντίμετρά του, αλλά είπε ότι η απάντηση θα ελάμβανε υπόψη τα συμφέροντα των «απλών βρετανικών πολιτών και των επιχειρηματιών».
Παρά αυτό που εμφανίστηκε να είναι μια προσπάθεια να οδηγηθεί η κρίση μακρυά από τους οικονομικούς δεσμούς UK-Ρωσία, ο κ. Grushko χρησιμοποίησε τη συνοπτική διάσκεψη ειδήσεων για να παραδώσει μερικά τρυπήματα στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία, που προειδοποιεί ότι η διπλωματική κρίση θα μπορούσε να αποτρέψει τις χώρες μαζί στα διεθνή ζητήματα.
«Τι συμβαίνει το καθιστά αδύνατο για τις βρετανικές και ρωσικές αντιπροσωπείες να συνεργαστούν στην ασφάλεια,» είπε.
«Κοιτάζει σαν τιμωρούμαστε για τη συντήρηση του συντάγματός μας […] Δεν είναι μια πρόσκληση στη συνεργασία.»
Ο ρωσικός πρεσβευτής στο Λονδίνο, Yury Fedotov, εν λόγω Ρωσία δεν εκδικήθηκε σήμερα ως αναμένει επειδή «είμαστε σοβαροί άνθρωποι, δεν ορμάμε».
Μιλώντας στη εξωτερική όψη Γουέστμινστερ δημοσιογράφων, ο κ. Fedotov είπε Andrei Lugovoi, ο προηγούμενος ανώτερος υπάλληλος νοημοσύνης που η Μεγάλη Βρετανία θέλει, δοκιμή προσώπου δυνάμεων στη Ρωσία και ότι μια τέτοια προσφορά εήταν από τη Μόσχα.
Συγχρόνως το Κρεμλίνο σκιαγράφησε επίσης έξω την πιθανή στρατηγική του για έξω η κρίση, που υπαινίσσεται ότι θα επιδίωκε να διαιρέσει την κυβέρνηση του κ. Brown's από τους συμμάχους και τους συνεργάτες της ΕΕ του - μια τεχνική Μόσχα έχει υιοθετήσει επιτυχώς στο παρελθόν.
Ο κ. Grushko κατηγόρησε αποτελεσματικά τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία για την προσπάθεια να πειρατεφθεί η ΕΕ και είπε ότι εκμεταλλευόταν τη δολοφονία του Αλεξάνδρου Litvinenko για να επιτύχει τους «στόχους unilateralist του».
«Ελπίζουμε ότι η κοινή αίσθηση θα επικρατήσει στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και τα μέλη του δεν θα παραγάγουν σε περισσότερες προσπάθειες να μετατρέψουν οι σχέσεις μεταξύ της Ρωσίας και της ΕΕ σε είδος μοναδικού εργαλείου… που δεν έχουν τίποτα από κοινού με τα πραγματικά ενδιαφέροντα συνεργασίας μεταξύ της ΕΕ και της Ρωσίας.»
Η Μόσχα είναι θαυμάσια επιτυχής στη διαιρώντας Ευρώπη πέρα από την ενέργεια, η παραγωγή της χωριστής σωλήνωσης εξετάζει τη Γερμανία και την Τσεχία, και την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα τη χορήγηση στο γαλλικό σύνολο ενεργειακής επιχείρησης ενός πασσάλου 25% στην ανάπτυξη ενός ογκώδους τομέα αερίου στην Αρκτική.
Ο ρωσικός υπουργός των πόρων, Yuri Trutnev, πρόθεση της προηγούμενης σήμερα επισημαμένη Μόσχας να προφυλαχθούν οι οικονομικοί δεσμοί της Ρωσίας στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία από τη διπλωματική θύελλα.
The foreign secretary, David Miliband, yesterday told the Commons that Britain’s expulsion of the four diplomats was “proportional and it is clear at whom it is aimed”.
The diplomats are officers with one of the successor organisations to the KGB, a signal that Britain suspects Russian intelligence agencies had a hand in Litvinenko’s murder.
Russian officials said today that Russia’s ambassador to the UK, Yury Fedotov, was summoned yesterday to the foreign office and given the names of the four diplomats.
The British authorities had given them 10 days to leave Britain, the source added. He refused to name them, but said they occupied middle ranking positions.
In Moscow, Russia’s pro-Kremlin press laid the blame for the crisis on London “and the hypocritical” government of Gordon Brown.
On its front page the newspaper Isvestiya said that Britain had “declared war on Russia” next to an unflattering photo of an open-mouthed Mr Brown attempting an overambitious smash with a tennis racket.
“The language of ultimatums, threats and demarches will hardly help British authorities in their dialogue with Russia,” the paper said.
It added: “The actions of Gordon Brown and his newly formed cabinet are nothing but a policy of double standards.”
In an interview with the paper Mr Lugovoi - the man sought for extradition by the UK - dismissed claims that he poisoned Alexander Litvinenko at London’s Millennium hotel on November 1.
Over the weekend waiter Norberto Andrade told the Sunday Telegraph that Mr Lugovoi had slipped radioactive polonium into Litvinenko’s tea “turning the teapot yellow and gooey”.
But Mr Lugovoi told the paper: “It’s laughable. [Mr Andrade’s] claims are either a lie or stupidity. We did not look conspicuous and left after about 15 minutes. No matter how experienced the waiter might have been, it’s strange that he should remember us for so long,”
Most ordinary Russians seemed unmoved by the crisis.
“This isn’t a big crisis, it’s a medium-sized one,” Natasha Trusova, a 35-year-old newspaper courier told the Guardian. “Generally Russians think that the UK is a peaceful country, while the US is an aggressive one.”
Others expressed sympathy with the Kremlin’s hardline stance.
“All intelligence services go round killing traitors. It’s natural,” Andrei Sakharov, 31, a project manager, said.
