One Pakistani soldier has been killed and another one injured by Indian troops across the countries’ disputed border in Kashmir, army says.

“A soldier embraced martyrdom while another was seriously injured due to unprovoked firing by Indian troops in Rawala Kot area at the Line of Control,” the army said in a statement on Saturday.

The Indian military said last month that one of its soldiers was killed in what it called an unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control in Indian-administrated Kashmir.

Kashmir lies at the heart of more than 65 years of hostility between India and Pakistan. Both countries claim the region in full but each only has control over a section of the territory.

Over the past two decades, the conflict in Kashmir has left over 47,000 people dead by the official count, although other sources say the death toll could be as high as 100,000.
