Pakistan has condemned a recent US assassination drone strike, which claimed the lives of four people, saying that the drone attacks by the US violate Pakistani territorial integrity.

The deadly attack, which was the first of such strikes since the countryâ„¢s May 11 general elections, took place on Wednesday, after US drones fired two missiles at a house in Chashma village, near North Waziristanâ„¢s Miranshah.

“Any drone strike is against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan and we condemn it,” a Pakistani Foreign Ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

On Friday, Pakistanâ„¢s Foreign Ministry voiced opposition to ongoing CIA-operated drone strikes. The ministry said the attacks claim the lives of civilians and are in breach of international law, Pakistanâ„¢s sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

On May 21, the Brussels-based International Crisis Group (ICG) published a report entitled Å“Drones: Myths and Reality in Pakistan.”

The report accused Washington of refusing to acknowledge that the CIA-led drone campaign Å“undermines efforts to assess the programâ„¢s legality.”

In the report, the ICG called on the US to establish Å“clearer lines of authority and accountability, including greater congressional and judicial oversight.”

Over the past several years, Washington has been launching drone attacks on Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen, claiming that militants are the targets. However, casualty figures clearly indicate that civilians are the main victims.
