Unknown militants have attacked a mosque in northwestern Pakistan, killing three preachers and wounding nearly 20 others.
Pakistani police sources sais the assault was carired out on the outskirts of the city of Peshawar on Thursday.
œTwo attackers came on a motorbike and hurled grenades at a mosque soon after a preaching group arrived there late on Thursday night,” said Rahim Shah, a senior local police official said.
œAt least three people were killed and 18 others got wounded. Two of them are serious.”
The assailants reportedly managed to flee the scene.
Shah also stated that a group of 25 Islamic preachers had arrived in the area to organize teaching sessions.
On Thursday, at least nine people were also injured in a hand grenade attack at a Shia mosque in the southern port city of Karachi. Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.
Thousands of people have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks in Pakistan since 2001, when Islanmabad entered an alliance with Washington on the so-called war on terror.
Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
