The UK government has issued an advisory warning for travelers to the United States, as border checks and tourist sites experience delays due to the US government shutdown.
An official notice was posted on UK government’s website on Wednesday as the US government entered its second day of a partial closure and hundreds of thousands of public sector employees experience furloughs.
“Delays may occur” at air traffic control, security and “immigration processes”, the official travel advise for US webpage said.
Germany also issued warnings of possible delays at immigration and tourist sites due to a spat between Democrat and Republican White House officials bickering and remaining undecided over a the governmental budget.
German Foreign Ministry warned that œtravellers should expect longer wait times at immigration control.”
Over 5 million Britons visit America every year.
The shutdown has already laid off hundreds of thousands of workers, closed national parks and delayed national services. A shutdown in 1995 lasted 21 days and cost the federal government $1.5 billion.
