Nowruz, the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere, is the first day of the Iranian month of Farvardin on the Persian calendar, which usually falls on March 20. But in leap years, it coincides with March 21.

Nowruz is one of the oldest and most cherished festivities, which has been celebrated for at least 3,000 years.
The International Day of Nowruz was registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on February 23, 2010, and the festivities are now celebrated in many countries including the United States and Canada.
Iran has been the target of illegal sanctions imposed by Washington and its allies on the baseless grounds that the Islamic Republic has been pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program. Tehran categorically denies the unfounded allegation.
Senior Iranian officials have time and again stressed that the nuclear technology is solely used for civilian purposes, saying that Tehran’s nuclear energy program is only an excuse for the West to impose sanctions on Iran with the actual aim of stopping its progress toward further independence from the Western technology and science in various fields.
