Police officials examine the site of a bus crash in Indonesia’s West Java Province on August 21, 2013.
In Indonesia, at least 18 people have been killed and more than a dozen others injured in a bus crash incident in the countryâ„¢s West Java Province.
Police sources said on Wednesday that a bus carrying 60 people and a car crashed into a wall in northern Jakarta before falling about eight meters (26 feet) into a river in Cisarua.
About 40 people were reportedly injured.
“We are still looking for two kids reportedly crossing the street when the accident happened,” local disaster management agencyâ„¢s Budi Aksono said.
Reports say the bus had been returning from a church and was heading towards the resort town of Puncak when the accident took place.
Officials also say most of the victims were killed instantly.
According to local traffic police chief Capt. Muhammad Chani, the driver of the bus lost control when the vehicleâ„¢s brakes malfunctioned.
However, officials say they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Due to poor road construction and safety standards, road accidents are common in Indonesia.
