UKâ„¢s Post office workers set to stage a fresh strike later this month as talks fail.
Thousands of workers in Britainâ„¢s biggest post offices are to stage a fresh strike later this month in a long-running row over branch closures, jobs and pay.
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in hundreds of Crown Post Offices will walkout for half a day on June 20 and all day on June 29.
The union said members at main post offices have not received a pay rise in more than two years, while workers at other sites received two increases worth 6.75 percent over the same period of time.
Å“Thereâ„¢s no change, no new offers and no movement from the Post Office,” CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said.
“This dispute can’t be resolved while the CEO Paula Vennells remains aloof and absent from talks,” he added.
According to CWU officials, up to 4,000 staff working in 373 Crown post offices will take part in the industrial action in a bid to pressure the government to rethink its plans to close or franchise 76 Crown offices, the larger branches usually based in high streets, and dismissing 800 staff.
Crown Post Offices constitute only three percent of the mail network of 11,800 branches across Britain, but handle 20 percent of all transactions and 40 percent of financial services sales.
