Egypt orders arrest of top cleric

Egypt’s chief prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for the country™s top Sunni cleric Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, reports say.

The Qatar-based cleric is accused of inciting the killing of Egyptian security forces and meddling in the country™s affairs.

Qaradawi has been a major critic of the country™s army following the ouster of Egypt™s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, in July.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Coup, Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance has called on Egyptians to hold week-long anti-government demonstrations starting Friday across the country.

Since Morsi™s ouster, Egypt has been the scene of demonstrations held by former president™s supporters demanding his reinstatement.

Egypt has also witnessed violence since then as the army-appointed government has launched a bloody crackdown on Morsi supporters and arrested more than 2,000 Muslim Brotherhood members.

Hundreds of people have lost their lives in the violence between Morsi supporters and the security forces so far.
