China to boost LatAm trade ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a visit of Ëœhistoric significanceâ„¢ to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in line with Beijingâ„¢s plans to strengthen trade ties with Latin America.

Chinaâ„¢s Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Huang Xingyuan said the president will arrive in the country for a three-day visit Friday, on his first trip to the English-speaking Caribbean country.

Å“Xiâ„¢s visit is of particular historic significance. It shows China is committed to developing relations with Trinidad and Tobago as well as the Caribbean,” Xingyuan stated.

The Chinese head of state will later hold meetings with representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Mexico, Suriname and Jamaica.

The countries have all established trade relations with China, and they are expected to sign a number of documents on cooperation including those in the fields of economy, trade, construction, heavy industries and education.

Meanwhile, the Chinese president is also planned to visit Washington and meet with US President Barack Obama on June 7-8 as part of his tour.

In 2010, China overtook Japan as the second largest economy. Experts forecast that the country will pass the United States in 2030.
