Two Canadians who were arrested and held in a cramped Egyptian jail cell for more than seven weeks without charges have been released.
John Greyson, left, and Tarek Loubani are pictured in undated photos.In a statement released early today, Canadian Minister of State Lynne Yelich said the government welcomed the release of Tarek Loubani and John Greyson, who were arrested August 16th during a deadly protest in Cairo.
“I look forward to Dr. Loubani and Mr. Greyson being reunited with their families and friends, who have shown tremendous strength during this difficult time,” Yelich said.
London emergency room doctor Tarek Loubani and Toronto filmmaker John Greyson were arrested on their way to Gaza as part of a volunteer medical mission. According to a statement released by the pair, they were arrested and beaten after witnessing the deaths of more than 50 protesters.
