Twin bomb blasts have targeted passing police conveys in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi, killing at least one policeman and injuring eight others, security sources say.
The causalities came when attackers detonated their explosive devices on Manghopir Road in Karachi’s Pirabad area on Saturday.
Security officials say the attackers could manage to flee the scene before the security forces cordoned off the area and shifted the injured people.
Medical sources said the death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
No group or person has yet claimed responsibility for the blast. However, Pro-Taliban militants or criminal gangs frequently carry out attacks on police and army convoys in the volatile city.
Karachi has experienced a fresh spate of violence and targeted killings over the past few months.
Sectarian, political and ethnic violence in Karachi has killed hundreds of people in Pakistanâ„¢s main commercial hub so far this year.
The city is home to numerous ethnic groups and has been hit by clashes between rival ethnic and political factions in the past two decades.
Thousands of people have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.
Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
