Heckler bij de Rug
SchNews | De campagnevoerders in Nottingham hebben de tweede grootste verkoper van de wereld van klein-wapens, Heckler en Koch, stevig in hun gezichten. Men zou gedacht hebben dat een stad berucht voor zijn kanonmisdaad een slechte plaats voor een pakhuishoogtepunt van kanonnen zou zijn. Volgens H&K, die grote zaken uitrustend oorlog-mongers aan geen kant doen.
De trotse eigenaars van bewapening H&K omvatten de brutale milities van Darfur - Janjaweed. Komisch genoeg, ondanks outcry tegen de slachtingen in Darfur, waren zij duidelijk niet genoeg slecht helemaal genoeg ophouden verkopend wapens aan de daders. Een zelfs recent arrestatiebevel door het Internationale Misdadige Hof (ICC) tegen een hogere Soedanees heeft de politicus die van het verkopen van wapens H&K aan Janjaweed wordt beschuldigd niet geschenen te stammen de stroom van kanonnen H&K aan een militie die door iedereen met inbegrip van de V.S. van het begaan van volkerenmoord wordt beschuldigd. (De kanonnen H&K vullen ook de arsenalen van de V.S. Afd. van de Veiligheid van het Geboorteland, de Verbindingen van de Marine van de V.S. & FBI onder andere).
H&K heeft een strategisch vennootschap `' met het grootste mercenary bedrijf Blackwater van de wereld (zie SchNEWS 572). H&K lever de kanonnen aan de Iraakse en Afghaanse marionettenoverheden, en Blackwater verstrekt de opleiding (misschien leveren zij ook kind-gerangschikte doelstellingen voor hun studenten).
Er was een plan voor H&K om' te produceren wapens `speciale uitgave Blackwater - voltooi met het embleem Blackwater op hen. Nochtans, na Blackwater gemaakt tot de krantekoppen voor het doden van 17 onschuldige Irakezen (niet de eerste keer dat Blackwater onschuldige Irakezen heeft gedood, maar de eerste keer dat het het nieuws op een belangrijke manier) maakte, werd het plan opgeschort.
Bijna 100 mensen toonden deze Dinsdag (zesde) aan maart tegen H&K bij hun faciliteit van Nottingham, gecombineerd met grote aantallen politie die, in de woorden van één protester `hun gebruikelijke sinistere selves' waren. De FIT Team (zie www.fitwatch.blogspot.com) gemaakt hun (altijd ongewenste aanwezigheid) en deed wat zij beste doen - intimideer de hele dag flagrant mensen met videocamera's; na één of ander mensenhuis.
Interessant, kwamen de lokale media ook onder druk; Trent FM, who had shown some enthusiasm about reporting the demo, received a word in their ear from both H&K’s press office as well as the police, warning hacks that it would be ‘irresponsible’ to publish the fact that H&K has a warehouse full of weapons in Nottingham, as it may prompt criminals to try and steal them.
In response the campaigners pointed out to the radio station that H&K’s address was published at Company House, as well as in several business directories. About the radio station being leaned on, the campaigners said that “If the security policy of H&K and Notts police relies on no-one finding out the company’s location, then clearly it is they who are irresponsible, not our campaign and not the media. A large warehouse stocked with high-power assault rifles and submachine guns with inadequate security to prevent a robbery is clearly a significant danger to the public, and publicisng such a danger is very much in the public interest.”
The H&K warehouse, located at Easter Park, Lenton Lane, Nottingham, is next to the ‘Trent Vineyard’, an evangelist church that held the funeral of Danielle Beccan, a 14 year old girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting. At her funeral service the then mayor of Nottingham said, “Guns have no place at all in our community – not in Nottingham, not in my city nor any other city in Britain.”
One campaigner told us “The arms trade relies on secrecy. Most people abhor the idea of factories and warehouse making and selling weapons around the world, and arms companies know this. By lifting the lid on the business, anti-arms protesters can make a put the pressure on the government/corporate killing machine to stop killing for profit.”
