Saudi Arabia is shooting itself in the foot by executing Shiite cleric

The House of Saud’s plans to execute a revered Shiite cleric and protest leader reveal the extent to which the regime is vulnerable and desperate to perpetuate itself. Going ahead with the execution would be strategic miscalculation.

Significant political developments have unfolded in Saudi Arabia in recent weeks following a court decision to execute Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, a polarizing Shiite cleric and political activist who has campaigned for civil equality, an inclusive socio-political system, women’s rights, minority rights, and the release of political prisoners. Prosecutors condemned the cleric to death by beheading as punishment for charges of sedition, though the execution date has not yet been set.

Sheikh Nimr has been the fiercest critic of the Kingdom’s absolute Sunni monarchy for the last decade, but gained a considerable public following after leading a series of protests in 2011 in opposition to the Saudi military’s violent intervention and suppression of the pro-democracy movement in neighboring Bahrain, a satellite state with a Shiite majority ruled by a heavy-handed Sunni dynasty. His sermons and political activism continually emphasized non-violent resistance.

The Kingdom’s decision to sentence Nimr to death has complex implications that will push sectarian tensions to fever pitch inside Saudi Arabia and throughout the region, dangerously sharpening tension with Iran. Prominent clerics in Iran and Bahrain, as well as Shiite militant groups such as Hezbollah of Lebanon and the Houthi movement of Yemen, have all condemned the verdict and warned the Kingdom not to proceed with the execution.

Political Prisoner Nabeel Rajab Freed

Bahrain's Al Khalifa monarchy rules despotically. Ruthlessly. Extrajudicially. State terror is official policy. 

Activists are targeted, arrested, tortured, and imprisoned. Kangaroo court proceedings deny justice.

Nabeel Rajab is one of Bahrain's best. He's a prominent human rights leader. A courageous one. Committed for right over wrong.

In 2002, he, current political prisoner Abdulhadi Alkhawaja, and others co-founded the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR). 

Its objectives include:

(1) Promoting civil, political, and economic freedom.

(2) Ending racial discrimination.

(3) Disseminating human rights culture.

(4) Supporting and protecting victims' rights.

Promoting fundamental human and civil rights in Bahrain risks life and limb. Rajab was targeted before.

He was harassed, vilified, beaten, injured, arrested, tortured and detained. Bahraini justice is none at all.

Activists like Rajab know what they face. They challenge Al Khalifa ruthlessness anyway.

On August 16, 2012, Rajab was sentenced to three years in prison. At the time, BCHR condemned it "in the strongest terms." 

He was already serving a three month sentence. For defending fundamental rights. For "libeling the citizens of the town of Muharraq over twitter," prosecutors said.

Rajab responded, saying "(y)ou can jail me for 3 years or 30 years, but I will not back down or retreat."

No matter the personal cost. He promised continued support for democratic values. He called them too important to be denied.

"I think we have to pay a much higher price than what normally people pay for freedom and democracy because you will not hear much about what’s going on here, as much as you will hear things happening in different countries," he explained.

On March 20, 2011, masked security forces dragged him from his home. They did so after midnight. They blindfolded and handcuffed him.

They severely beat him. He was attacked before. He was interrogated about statements he made. His family was threatened. 

His children were harassed in school. His wife was sacked from her job.

He was banned from travel for several months. He was denied permission to participate in human rights conferences and meetings.

He was imprisoned for "illegal practices, inciting illegal assemblies, and organizing unlicensed demonstrations through social media websites."

He championed justice. Fundamental human and civil rights. Bahraini authorities criminalized them. King Hamad calls peaceful protests "foreign plots."

Rajab said Washington supports Bahraini despotism. Including "attacks against human rights defenders," he explained. Before his arrest, he said:

"Given that Bahrain in essence lacks a judiciary system that is independent and/or fair, and is far from being in line with international standards of a fair trial, I have decided to boycott the trial against myself." 

"The judiciary system in Bahrain, today, is a tool used against human rights defenders and people calling for democracy and justice."

He explained two formative incidents. They changed him. They inspired his human rights advocacy.

"Two events affected me most," he said. "(O)ne when a colleague dropped himself from second floor to escape under-covered police who stormed school." 

"The second incident was when a dear teacher was arrested. That is when my voice started to rise and become annoying." 

"I was caught while writing apolitical human rights statements on school walls and was given the choice to either be submitted to police or to switch schools." 

"I was the top student back then, but I choose to switch to Sheikh Abdul Aziz school." In college he challenged all forms of injustice.

Later he got involved in national campaigns. In 1999, he co-founded the Bahrain Human Rights Society. In 2002, BCHR followed.

It supports "a prosperous democratic country free of discrimination and other violations of human rights."

It "encourage(s) and support(s) individuals and groups to be proactive in the protection of their own and others' rights."

It "struggle(s) to promote democracy and human rights in accordance with international norms."

Rajab won numerous human rights awards. For wanting Bahrainis to live free. For championing fundamental democratic rights.

He's now free. After serving two years of his three-year sentence. BCHR welcomed him back. 

"His release comes at a time when thousands of others continue to be imprisoned and targeted on trumped up charges," it said.

"It is important to note that (he's) not being released as a gesture of goodwill, but rather because he served the full length of his arbitrary detention sentence."

On December 11, 2012, Bahrain's Court of Appeal reduced his sentence to two years. In prison, he was tortured. He was ill-treated. 

He was subjected to "dire conditions," said BCHR. He was mostly isolated in solitary confinement. Almost naked, he said.

RT International interviewed Rajab. "After two years in prison, I see Bahrain's political environment as more difficult and still without a roadmap for real reforms," he said.

"I was kept separate in a separate building for two years, just to make sure that I did not connect with the other prisoners," he added.

"There were very few people who were with me in that separate building." 

"They were people who did not speak my language or people who were charged with criminal charges, which was completely different from what I was charged with."

He'll keep fighting for justice, he stressed.

"I know this is the cost of the struggle in this part of the world and I am planning to continue my struggle, no matter how much is the cost, knowing that all the countries have freedom and democracy today," he said.

"Maybe some people have to pay this cost in order to achieve democracy and human rights and I am one of many people in this country who is willing to pay this cost for my nation and my second generation to have democracy, justice and human rights."

He was only tortured once, he said. Emotionally things were tougher. Others were less fortunate, he explained.

"I have witnessed other people being tortured in front of my eyes." 

"I have seen people being tortured by the police and I made a lot of noise while I was there." 

"I sent a complaint to the United Nations and they finally told me that they are looking into those accusations."

He said Bahraini political prisoners get little or no attention.

"We have been ignored by the international community because Bahrain is with the Gulf and Saudi Arabia, which has a lot of influence in the west," he said.

The struggle for justice in Bahrain continues. Achieving it is distant. It's a long ways off, Rajab stressed.

"When I was sent to jail, there was no violence. I tweeted that I have said to the government that if you take peaceful people like me, who advocate peaceful gatherings and put them in jail, then you will face people who commit violence." 

"All human rights activists in Bahrain are behind bars and this is why you see such violence."

Achieving real Bahraini democracy is his fundamental goal.

"All the aims which I am holding and the values that I am fighting for, it keeps me going, knowing that a lot of people are waiting for me, a lot of people need me to be out, need me to be focused and strong," he said.

"I will be there for my people."

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) called his detention arbitrary.

It contravened articles 19, 20 and 21 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and articles 9, paragraph 1, 14, 21 and 22 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, it said. 

Horrific human rights abuses occur daily. Bahraini officials are rewarded for committing them. 

In July 2013, evidence proving Lt-Colonel Mubarak bin Huwail's guilt was dismissed.

Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa responded saying: "Thank you for your good work."

Bahrain's culture of impunity shows what human rights champions face. Rajab challenged this system courageously. He's not about to quit now.

Obama in Saudi Arabia: Will Riyadh really go it alone?

Saudi officials are highly displeased over Washington’s overtures to Iran and reluctance to strike Syria and have threatened to break away from the US sphere, but the monarchy may still see an oil-for-security partnership with the US as the safest policy.

Following his visit to Brussels where US President Barack Obama underscored the common values and principles shared between the United States and its European allies, the American president jetted off to meet another strategic ally. Saudi Arabia, a state that is the antithesis of those very western values that Obama passionately espouses, has been in the US sphere of influence for decades, and its opulent royal family has traditionally maintained close personal ties to American leaders. 

Obama’s visit comes in the midst of a policy rift that has emerged between the two allies over Washington’s policies in the Middle East, which threaten to undermine this significant economic and security partnership. The two allies appear to be strange bedfellows at first glance, but when the relationship is examined within the context of a long-standing geopolitical and economic oil-for-security partnership, lofty rhetoric about western values becomes subservient to the harmonious marriage of convenience.

Thailand’s political crisis: Time up for Thaksin?

General elections are widely seen as the answer to Thailand’s crippling political impasse, though Yingluck Shinawatra’s embattled government may be removed through either judicial or extra-legal means regardless of her performance at the polls.

Protestors calling for the ouster of Thailand’s caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra disrupted the February 2 polls by obstructing traffic and blocking access to voting sites, forcing authorities to postpone further voting until a later date is decided upon.

Thailand has been marred by political upheaval since November, and the country’s two rival protest movements accuse each other of launching anonymous attacks on one another, usually by targeted shootings or by the use of small explosives, leaving several dead.

The consensus of independent analysts and others who have monitored the attacks suggest that they were mostly launched by government supporters, who have used insurgent tactics in the past to support the Shinawatra political clan.

Thai political movements have been characterized in recent times by color affiliations. Protestors wearing yellow shirts represent the faction aligned to the all-powerful Thai monarchy and the royal establishment that has traditionally wielded tremendous social, political and economic power over the country.

New York Times Editors Support Wrong Over Right

Longstanding Times policy is consistent. It promotes establishment values. It supports wealth, power and privilege. It endorses global US dominance. 

When America goes to war or plans one, Times editors march in lockstep. Propaganda substitutes for truth and full disclosure. Managed news misinformation is featured.

Editorial policy defends the indefensible. It backs wrong over right. It justifies what demands condemnation. 

It supports banksters looting the federal treasury. It does so by not exposing and denouncing them. It does it by not demanding top Wall Street officials be prosecuted. 

Monied interests run America. Times editors ignore it. They turn a blind eye to America's de facto one party state. They endorse sham US elections. They give legitimacy to a rigged process. 

They give short shrift to growing US poverty, unemployment, underemployment, hunger, homelessness, and human misery.

They support destroying vital safety net protections when most needed. They endorse force-fed austerity instead of denouncing it. 

News they claim fit to print isn't fit to read. Managed news misinformation substitutes. Vital truths readers most need to know are suppressed. Core journalistic ethics are violated.

On December 17, a flagrant human rights abuser got feature op-ed space. Doing so effectively endorses his nation's policy.

Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz al Saud is Saudi Arabia's UK ambassador. He's a royal House of Saud member. His father, Nawwaf bin Abdulaziz, is a close King Abdullah ally.

Giving bin Abdulaziz feature op-space effectively supports one of the world's most repressive regimes.

State terror is official policy. Human and civil rights are denied. Authority rests solely with King Abdullah and royal family members.

Democracy is strictly forbidden. Constitutional provisions afford ordinary citizens and other residents no rights. Women are especially marginalized and denied.

Political parties and national elections are prohibited. So is media freedom. Most web sites are blocked. 

Anyone dissenting is subject to arbitrary arrest and detention. Political critics, independent journalists, academics, foreign nationals, and human rights activists are especially vulnerable.

Fundamentalist Sunni Islam Wahhabism is Saudi's official state religion. Fanaticism defines it. Majority Shia nations are considered enemies. So are secular Arab states.

Wahhabis want them toppled. They want their own version of Islam replacing them. They operate lawlessly. They employ extreme tactics to achieve aims.

Saudi Arabia is hostile to Iran. It wants Syria's Assad removed. It's heavily involved in recruiting, funding and arming terrorist invaders.

It was caught red-handed supplying them with chemical weapons. New York Times editors ignored what demanded headlines.

They reported nothing about new US/Saudi-backed death squad atrocities. Dozens of Adra, Syrian men, women, children, infants, the elderly and infirm were massacred in cold blood. 

Doing so is one of the most egregious crimes since Syria's conflict erupted. Defenseless civilians were slaughtered like sheep. 

Local residents called terrorist invaders "the decapitators." They burned some civilians to death.

They targeted government employees and their families. They had lists of names and addresses supplied them.

They conducted sham Sharia trials. Guilt by accusation assured death by beheading. Others were shot in cold blood. Some were burned alive in bakery ovens.

Eyewitnesses described mass slaughter everywhere. Children were massacred like adults. Terrorists waged war without mercy.

One survivor said everyone at Adra Ummalia hospital was killed. Syria is Obama's war. He supports death squad invaders. 

He's providing funding, arming, training and direction. Death squad diplomacy substitutes for peaceful conflict resolution. 

War could continue for years. There's nothing whatever civil about it. US-backed death squads invaded Syria. Assad responsibly battles to defeat them.

Syria is being ravaged and destroyed. Doing so adds another horrific war crime to Obama's rap sheet.

Unspeakable numbers of innocent Syrian civilians could perish before conflict ends. Obama bears full responsibility. Key NATO partners, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and rogue Arab state allies share it. 

So do Times and other scoundrel media editors. Misreporting shows support for unconscionable crimes. 

Giving feature op-ed space to an enemy of peace and egregious human rights abuser reflects it.

Bin Abdulaziz headlined his Times op-ed "Saudi Arabia Will Go It Alone."

He called relations "with our Western partners..tested..because of differences over Iran and Syria."

"We believe that many of the West’s policies on both (countries) risk the stability and security of the Middle East." 

"This is a dangerous gamble, about which we cannot remain silent, and will not stand idly by."

"The crisis in Syria continues unabated." He stopped short of explaining Saudi involvement in exacerbating it.

Times editors ignore it. They wrongfully blame Assad for death squad invader crimes. They do it repeatedly. They do it reprehensibly. 

It's longstanding Times policy. So is giving feature op-ed space to loathsome figures like bin Abdulaziz.

He called Assad's government "a weapon of mass destruction. Chemical weapons are but a small cog in (his) killing machine."

He called it "an evil regime that is hurting and harming the Syrian people." He lied multiple times throughout his commentary claiming it.

Recent polls show Assad has strong popular support. In early September, Press TV cited a US daily news service World Tribune one.

It showed 70% of Syrians support Assad. Another 20% back neither side. Only 10% endorse opposition elements. 

Don't expect New York Times editors to explain. Don't expect bin Abdulaziz and likeminded rogues to feature truth and full disclosure.

Their agenda is ruthlessly repressive. Bin Abdulaziz wants the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria's secular government toppled. 

He wants Wahhabist extremism replacing them. He wants them turned into regional terror states. He wants them run as repressively as Saudi Arabia.

His notion of peaceful conflict resolution is preventing it. He accused "some Western capitals (of) risking the security of the whole Arab world" by failing to increase toughness.

"This means that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has no choice but to become more assertive in international affairs," he said. 

He ludicrously claimed doing so is a way "to stand up for the genuine stability our region desperately needs."

"(W)e have a humanitarian responsibility to do what we can to end the suffering in Syria."

In February 1968, then AP correspondent Peter Arnett wrote about Ben Tre. He cited an unnamed US major saying: "It became necessary to destroy the village in order to save it."

Intensive bombing and shelling slaughtered Vietnamese civilians. In mid-March, Charlie Company entered My Lai. Destroying the village to save it repeated. Hundreds were slaughtered. 

Most were women, children, infants, and elderly victims. Bodies were found mutilated. Women were raped, then murdered. 

Crimes of war and against humanity reflect longstanding US policy. Since early 2011, they continue in Syria. 

Media scoundrels ignore them. They wrongfully blame Assad for terrorists' crimes. Saudi Arabia is very much complicit. It's a rogue state writ large.

Bin Abdulaziz shamelessly called its monarchy and likeminded ones "champions of moderation." 

His notion of "humanitarian responsibility" is mass slaughter and destruction. It's unspeakable atrocities. 

It's wrongfully blaming victims. It's waging war on peace, stability and security. Times editors march in lockstep. 

They do so disgracefully. They shamelessly betray readers consistently. Doing so reflects longstanding Times policy.

America is broken: Who will fix it?


This is the document that clearly authorizes what the Federal government is allowed to do, what authorities and responsibilities the separate entities of the Government have.  It is what Our Troops swear to defend and what our politicians and judges have sworn to uphold:


We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Those words in the first paragraph above are the beginning of an article written on War On Terror News back on Constitution Day 2011.


As is pointed out within that article, the US Constitution is but four (4!!!)  pages of simple language setting out what America is/will be, and what it is NOT.  The foundations upon which a great nation was based seem to have been shaken to the core in recent years, as the current crop of politicians seem determined to over-reach the very clear limits placed upon them within that framework.  Today, from where I sit, America is under attack by those very 'servants' of the people who - as noted above - swore to uphold the Constitution. 



 America is broken: Who will fix it? 

 

Since the first election campaign of the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania, I have watched the media aid and abet those candidates who preached things like: Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.



 On the first campaign Obama repeatedly said things like:   America does not need to be divided and angry. "You can't afford to settle for the same old politics," and was constantly referred to as the 'great uniter.'  He made many silver-tongued promises of how if we just voted for him, he would join us all as one to transform this country,  that was forged in those values held most dear by the Founding Fathers. 



Really? Okay, well  not so much.  At almost every turn, this administration has been based on the willingness of the uneducated masses to blindly follow an ideology, an agenda, that was based on emotion, rather than a  clear  articulation of what that transformation really meant.  Sure, his golden oratory promised that there would be 'peace in the world; the dawning of a new era' or something like that.  A whole new America, where every mouth was fed, and everybody would be healthy and wealthy living in this new nirvana.  What he did NOT say explicitly was that government would tell parents what their children would be taught in school (Common Core,  anybody?), what those kids must eat in school (Let's Move, courtesy of the missus), a health care system  where everybody would have equal access to healthcare, no matter their economical or citizenship status - or their individual choices?  (ObamaCare of course!)  As for everybody sharing the wealth of America? NOwhere in the Constitution is the power given to the Federal Government to give gazillions of taxpayer dollars to create phantom 'shovel ready' projects to give fake jobs to citizens. All well and good, but the America the Constitution was written in, and for, was an America that ANY and all of those were attainable by the individual effort.  They are NOT mandated within the Constitution, nor are they God-given rights.  "The PURSUIT...", not the giving.   




From where I sit, this administration and their policies foisted upon us, has divided America in a way I have not seen before. And I am not alone in seeing this. COL (r) Allen West had this up today.






 

THIS administration has gone so far outside the Constitution of America, exceeded the mandate set therein, that the evidence of a divided America cannot be ignored, denied.


Every President of the United States swears an oath to defend the United States Constitution:



I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.


 

This POTUS has taken this oath twice now, but from where I sit, this self-proclaimed 'Constitutional expert' has wilfully ignored the Constitution, and in so doing, has brought America to a very dangerous precipice.



 NOwhere in the Constitution does it stipulate that any government (Federal or State) has the right to tell Americans what products they must buy, and then fine them if they do not.  NOwhere in that document could I find it stated that it is the duty of the Federal government to tell schools (within different States) what the curriculum should be...





“Give me just one generation of youth, and I'll transform the whole world.” - Lenin
“Give me two generations of children of Americans in school without God and I will take the nation without firing a shot!” - Lenin 


Search as I might, I found no dietary mandate for the Federal government within the records.  Nor did I find any reference to the Federal government politicians having the duty to enable the ever more greedy, and dependent: the 'give me" generation.  As I watch the America I love more divided - and angry - than I ever remember, I see Americans demoralised and asking themselves: Where is my America?






There is no denying that America IS broken, and the next question must be: Who will fix it?   Our politicians ignore their sworn duty as set out in the Constitution, and forget that they are servants of the people, elected to serve us, not just ensure a lifetime career with the perks - paid for by your taxes - that they somehow see as their right, their entitlement.  Dare to challenge that?  You are branded a terrorist, un-American, and subject to public ridicule and character assassination.  




NOwhere in the US Constitution does the president have unlimited power over the people, nor the authority to rule over every aspect of the citizens' lives.




Found a very interesting series of videos, where the same simple language as found in the Constitution is used to explain the function and limits of each of the three branches of government. Take a look:



"...their terms [Congress] are short to check corruption... this [the Senate] was designed so their duties would be to have a powerful role in checks and balances to the Federal government , so that it would not gain total power  over the people. The Founding Fathers never intended for the Federal government to rule over the states or the people..."


In 1913, the 17th Amendment was implemented, which in effect weakened the individual States' powers to check the Federal government.   Go check out the series of videos.




One of those videos focuses on the reason the US chose to be a Republic rather than stay under the Rule of a Monarchy.




There is a very simple Pledge of Allegiance, that swears (as per the original):



I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today.[...]. Today it reads:



"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."



An element present in the Pledge,  and enshrined within the Constitution, is the pursuit of Liberty...NOwhere in the Pledge of Allegiance, NOR in the Constitution. is there a pledge to whatever president occupies the Oval Office.  NOWHERE!  Yet, in the current climate in America, partisanship rules the days and the politicians of all stripes demonstrate on a daily basis that their own allegiance is to their own re-election, and their political agenda, to the peril of the citizens. The cost? Freedom and our God-given Rights to Liberty. 




That 1954 version of the Pledge still stands today, and yes, as noted, it was 'in response to the Communist threat of the times.'




That was a very real threat, and in those days America WAS vigilant of any threat to the freedom of the Republic's citizens.  As well that might be to today, as we see very real threats to the Liberty and Freedoms determined to beat down the doors of the Republic.




From 1930,  and still so very relevant today, with current enemies hell-bent on destroying the American citizens' God-given rights to liberty, and freedom to pursue those liberties:




"War to the hilt between communism and capitalism is inevitable. Today, of course, we are not strong enough to attack.


Our time will come in thirty to forty years. To win, we shall need the element of surprise. The Western world will have to be put to sleep. 


So we shall begin by launching the most spectacular peace movement on record. There shall be electrifying overtures and unheard of concessions. 

The capitalist countries, stupid and decadent, will rejoice to cooperate to their own destruction. They will leap at another chance to be friends. 

As soon as their guard is down, we shall smash them with our clenched fist."

Am reminded of : Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.   At this time when Putin is on the world stage - front and center as an effective 'statesman'  -  as POTUS busies himself with drawing ineffectual red lines, and appeasing our enemies, it seems to me  that the wolves have already breached the walls of the Republic.  
 
Today, the wolves pervade every level of our government, as the citizenry are apparently intent on proving the truth of those words from 1930;
 

The capitalist countries, stupid and decadent, will rejoice to cooperate to their own destruction. They will leap at another chance to be friends. 



From where I sit, the truth of that is staggering and is happening right before our eyes, and yet the sheep sleep on, as the current administration continues to run full-speed over their Constitutional duties, and implement programs for the 'gimmes' in our midst, all the while stepping into matters that are not their business.  Beer summit, anybody?  Trayvon Martin ring a bell? Giving trillions of dollars to auto industries? Meddling in private industries by giving away millions of our tax dollars to 'green ideas'?  NOwhere in the Constitution is the power given to any government to dictate every detail of the people's lives. NOwhere in the Constitution is it stated that the Federal government can force any free citizen to buy a product, be forced to give financial aid/incentives, but rather they are given freedom to make their own individual choice.  






On the illegal implementation of ObamaCare, someone I know and respect, recently wrote this:

ObamaCare: It is long past time that this un Constitutional law be repealed, in its entirety.



And no, I will not entertain arguments that the SCOTUS ruled, therefore it is Constitutional. The SCOTUS does not have Constitutional Authority to amend the Constitution, or legislate from the bench. If you want to claim it's Constitutional, quote me the entire clause which makes it so; not two words and not a generality that is defined in following specifics. Quote me the clause of the Constitution that authorizes the Federal Government to FORCE an Individual Citizen to buy anything.



All of which is absolutely correct as stated in the simple language of the Constitution. Written over two hundred years ago, the values and rights of the citizens enshrined by the Founding Fathers are still relevant today.  BUT as we see, the government insists on  ignoring the rights of a FREE people, and imposing their ideology, on an ever more somnambulant population. 
 
America IS broken:  Who will fix it?
 
Talking with a Military Veteran friend just last night, I was sharing how depressed - how angry - I get at the seeming unwillingness of the citizenry to really grasp the enormity of the current threats to all our Freedoms.  
 
As the Military oath sworn by all new recruits says:
 


I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.  [yes, emphasis mine]


And there is part of my depression: it appalls me that our Troops have gone to far off lands to honor that oath, to advance the cause of freedom in places ruled by tyrants and despots.  Yet, when they come home, they find the tyrants are more powerful, more pervasive than could almost be imagined. 

There is an old cliche that goes something like 'only those who have fought for freedom, know the true value, the taste of it.'  Today,  I listen and watch the ever growing segment of our society who have no idea what it means to fight for their freedom.  In this time of increasing unemployment stats (and if you believe the official figures released, you really ARE asleep); when a huge percentage of the population is lined up for some form of government hand-out, that they have not earned, I am reminded of the "no such thing as a free lunch' truism.  Yes, Obama phones are 'free' for some, and yes, healthcare is 'free' for some,   but not only is somebody else (another American citizen) paying for that  - again, in direct contravention of the Constitution -  but when we as a whole lose our Liberty and our Freedoms because we are too apathetic to fight and defend those very underpinnings of our Republic, there will be NO free anything: Not for you, me or the Obamaphone folks...




When our Military Veterans have to fight at home for the respect and care they have earned, because their Commander In Chief disrespects the sacred duty to our Defenders of Freedom, I have to despair.  When I see Gold Star Families being threatened with cut off of their rightful due, because of partisan politics, I am beyond angry...OUR Military (no, not "HIS" Troops, as Obama claims) deserves better from a Chief Executive who swore to defend the Constitution.  Part of the Constitutional powers given to the POTUS is to do with the "Defense of the Nation."  Seems to me that the POTUS bears direct responsibility - within the clear parameters of the Constitution - for ensuring that those he expects to follow his orders, be well provided for both on and off the battlefield.  These days, evidence clearly shows,  to those of  us paying attention, that the Constitution is irrelevant to the CinC, and he ignores it,  as and when it suits his political  agenda - aided and abetted by his political cronies and hacks, of course....





In the Constitution it is clearly stated that defense of our borders is part of the government's duties.  Tell that to the family of Brian Terry.  (Go watch the video at that link.  Unbelievable) Tell that to the family of the rancher in AZ who was murdered.




Neither of these lives would have been lost, if the Federal government  adhered to the Constitution (and we won't even get into Fast and Furious here, where the guns were supplied by the US DoJ and then proven to be used against Americans because of the open, porous border.)  Go here to see how  the dereliction of duty by the Homeland Security government department directly affects the US Border Control's ability to defend against all foreign enemies. Gone are the days when oppressed people eagerly grasped the legal opportunity to enter the US, and earn the rights of Freedom and Liberty accorded American citizens.   Nowadays we have a POTUS and DoJ who are actively lobbying to reward those illegals who scurry across the unguarded borders in the dark of night. NOwhere in the Constitution does it give this power to POTUS, a deliberate flouting, blatant disrespect of the Republic's laws.  And if you don't understand the magnitude of that problem, go look at some videos of the hundreds, yes hundreds,  who weekly break our laws, confident that they can rape, murder and more, as they are promised amnesty, and given short-cuts to citizenship of America,  that they have not earned.  




Freedom and Liberty in America - FOR Americans - is under attack, and we have lost our way from the Founding Fathers' vision of this great Republic. 




 Our Founding Fathers, here in this country, brought about the only true revolution that has ever taken place in man's history. Every other revolution simply exchanged one set of rulers for another set of rulers.
 

 But only here did that little band of men so advanced beyond their time that the world has never seen their like since, evolve the idea that you and I have within ourselves the God-given right and the ability to determine our own destiny. But freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. 

 

The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it and then hand it to them with the well thought lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and I don't do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free. Thank You.



  And then there is Mark Twain,  who is also credited with  "what the government giveth, the government can take away":

“The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless trouble, [...] and there is great danger that our people will lose our independence of thought and action which is the cause of much of our greatness, [yes, emphasis mine] and sink into the helplessness of the Frenchman or German who expects his government to feed him when hungry, clothe him when naked, to prescribe when his child may be born and when he may die, and, in time, to regulate every act of humanity from the cradle to the tomb, including the manner in which he may seek future admission to paradise.” – Mark Twain, “Official Physic,” The Twainian, November, 1943


 The list is long, yet simplicity itself,  of the Freedoms - God-given Rights - paid for and earned by Americans, and I have but scratched the surface of those under attack.  The attack on the Second Amendment Rights is a battle being fought in parts of the country, as America-loving Patriots understand very well that sometimes we really DO need to fight to maintain the Freedom and Liberty enshrined in our Constitution.




America is so broken.  WHO will fix it?


 

Today this question is so critical, as we face such dangerous threats within our country.  We have lost the "one nation under God," and from where I sit, the Republic is in grave danger of collapse.




The Constitution begins:  We, the people" and it is my firm belief that only when We, the People wake up and see that it only by our own actions,  will we save our Republic.  WE who care about our Constitution, who believe that our Freedoms and Liberty ARE our God-given Rights, that no mere politician can squander for their own gain, must defend America.




Am I suggesting we all  take up our weapons,  and stage an armed insurrection? No.   What I am suggesting, URGING, is that all of us who see the precipice directly in front of us, continue to educate the sheep - after we have woken them up, of course! - and make them understand what is at stake here. Read and re-read the Constitution, so that you understand the foundations of America. Demand that every politician set aside their partisan politics, throw away their party loyalties, and demonstrate their loyalty to our country, our Constitution. If they are not capable of that, throw them out of office, and elect those Americans who WILL honor our Founding Fathers' vision of this great Republic. 







Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith let us to the end dare to do our duty as we understand it.

In the summer of 1980, Italian fascists blew up the central station in “red” Bologna. 85 people were killed, more than 200 were wounded. The terrorists had close ties to the Italian military intelligence and NATOs secret stay-behind groups. In Norway in the summer of 2011, two fascist lone wolf terrorist attacks were carried out against the government square block and the Youths Labor party summer camp, claiming the lives of 77 people and wounding more than 300. August 2nd in Italy and July 22nd in Norway are both markers of the worst terrorist acts in post-war Western Europe. In this guest post, Idar Helle, a member of the Transnational Labour Project in Oslo, reviews the book by Eystein Kleven 22. juli-terroren: Angrepet på arbeiderbevegelsen [The terror of 22nd of July: The attack on the labor movement] (Marxist publishing 2011, 42 pages).

After the 22nd of July 2011 most of the literature has focused on the victims and the personality of Anders Behring Breivik, the man who carried out the two acts of terror in Norway. But this text is different. Instead, the cultural and ideological conditions for fascist mass violence in our time are brought to the surface. More than what we are used to from the Norwegian left, the author Eystein Kleven at Marxist publishing uncompromisingly proceeds to take action about what he sees as a strengthened reactionary political tendency in the European deep culture. With a little defined labor movement safely positioned in the role as the hero of history, the pamphlet from the fall of 2011 pounces on bourgeois society:

“That is how the reactionary becomes the particular in the bourgeois at the same time as the general in fascism. This is true even though the reactionaries, and not at least fascisms, have the habit to dress up with creations of the past, be it kings’ men, crusaders, the pope’s church supremacy or the caliphate of the East. Among the bourgeois theories or ideologies, fascism is the ideology that most consequently and brutally substantiates the fight against the labor movement” (P.41).

The pamphlet has weaknesses making it vulnerable to the author’s opponents among liberals and authoritarian anti-Marxists.  Eystein Kleven’s way of reasoning and phrasing in a direct way has something sober about it, but just as much belongs to a time before 1960, when the faith in Marxism as the consummation of science was considered a state religion in the East, and a plausible point of view at the universities in the West. The text seems to have been created in a strange closed universe, without any references to public debate or scientific literature at all. It is thus up to the reader to seek other texts within and outside of the Marxist mainstream to supplement Kleven, and to create a more effective political synthesis.

“The White Terror” is a term used about the harsh behavior of the French restoration monarchy after the fall of Napoleon and the last breath of the revolution in 1815. It is at this point that we arrive at last at the most insisting pinprick: “in history the reactionary violence has consistently been considerably more cruel and violent than the violence carried out by progressive forces during revolutions” (P.21). From here the author moves on to an uncompromising statement that on a strategic level capital will at any time be prepared to form alliances with fascism against social counterforces to avoid change of the economic system.

To fully understand this, it might be suitable to be specific about the implications this analysis has for the political forecast in Europe: The statement implies that the dominating financial interests today seeking to transform the European Union into a more complete plutocracy and corporate power structure, will have less to fear from neo-fascist governments than in a social Europe. And if the Troika and the creditors on Wall Street and at the Frankfurt stock exchange would have to choose, they would – every day throughout the whole year – prefer Golden Dawn’s mob rule to Syriza and the attempt to organize the Greek and the European community against the interests of capital. The leading theorist of the Frankfurt School, Max Horkheimer, expressed the essential point like this in the 1930s: “Whoever is not prepared to talk about capitalism should keep quiet about fascism”.

On Wednesday, Saudi-backed security forces in Bahrain attacked demonstrators who were marking the end of the mourning days for Yusef al-Nashmi, the latest victim of the regime’s brutal crackdown on the people.

Al-Nashmi died on October 11 after spending almost a month in police custody.

On Saturday, Bahraini riot police fired shots and used tear gas to disperse hundreds of anti-regime protesters marching in the village of Sanabis, west of Manama, after al-Nashmi's funeral.

Bahrainis have been staging demonstrations since mid-February 2011, calling for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.

Scores have been killed, many of them under torture, while in custody, and thousands more detained since the popular uprising in the Persian Gulf kingdom.

Physicians for Human Rights says doctors and nurses have been detained, tortured, or disappeared because they have "evidence of atrocities committed by the authorities, security forces, and riot police" in the crackdown on anti-government protesters.

Protesters say they will continue to hold anti-regime demonstrations until their demand for the establishment of a democratically-elected government and an end to rights violations are met.
